When you are planning a camping trip, you want to make sure that you have all of the right equipment and gear so that you can have a great time. You don’t want to be out in the wilderness and not having something important. With that in mind, here are some things that you should bring with you when you go camping.
Starting simple, we having a sleeping bag. You will want to make sure that you have a sleeping bag so that you are nice and warm overnight. Different sleeping bags are best for certain temperatures, and you want to make sure that you have one that is going to work best for your specific situation.
You can check what temperature it works best at when you buy it, or it should say on the label somewhere. Either way, you want to bring a sleeping bag. You want one that is as small and compact as possible as you don’t want it taking up a log of space in your rucksack.
The next thing that you are going to want is something to sleep on each night. The ground is likely far harder and much less comfortable than your bed. This means that you are going to need some kind of sleeping mat. You can simple ones that roll up and are made of a type of foam. On the other hand, you can spend a little extra money and a thin inflatable sleeping mat.
These are blown up using your mouth and lungs and great a small layer of air that is nice and comfortable to sleep on. These types of sleeping mat are also generally far smaller than regular sleeping mats. This means that they take up less space in your bag.
The next thing you are going to want is incredibly obvious, but you want to make sure that you bring a tent. Depending on the number of people you are going camping with you might want a different sized tent. Larger tents are bigger and heavier, so make sure that you aren’t bringing and unnecessarily big tent if there are only two of your going camping.
You might just want double or single swags as you will only be sleeping in the tent and won’t spend that much time in there. Make sure that you know how the tent is put up before you go camping. You don’t want to be struggling to put the tent up in the dark while tired because you aren’t sure where the poles go or how to peg it to the ground. Make the tent first or at least memorize the building instructions.
You are going to want to eat food while you are camping and while cold food is all well and good you will enjoy some nice hot food in the evening. This is where bringing a camping stove becomes so important. Make sure that you bring spare gas canisters as without them you won’t be able to heat anything. If you enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the morning, then you will also want to make sure that you bring a stove so you can have those as you wake up each day.
Camping Plates and Utensils
You are going to need to eat and drink off something, so this means that you will want to bring suitable plates and utensils. You don’t want to bring your best china and cutlery, so you want to make sure that you have suitable alternative items. These should be things that can take a few knocks and not break.
This is because you will be carrying them in your bag all day and they might hit into each other and the other things in your bag. Plastic or metal plates work best, and metal knives and forks are also best. You will want something similar with your cups to drink out of. You will also want some pans so that you can cook food on your stove. You should try to get ones that are as compact as possible so that they don’t take up too much space in your bag.
Easy To Cook Food
Speaking of eating food when camping, you want to make it as easy as possible to cook. You do not want anything complicated. Instead, you want simple dishes like pasta with a sauce from a can or jar and things like that. The easier and simpler to make the better.
After a long day hiking or enjoying the outdoors, you do not want to have to make something complicated on your camping stove. Bringing precooked food or things that come in a can or jar will make your life easier and still allow you to enjoy a nice warm meal.
You need to be properly dressed for camping. This means making sure that you have hiking clothes. You want items that are lightweight to carry and are great for several kinds of weather. You don’t want to be stuck in the rain without a coat or in the baking sun wearing heavy, thick clothes.
Instead, you want to make sure that you are dressed for the weather but that you also have some option in case the weather changes. You will also need some appropriate hiking boots. These need to fit you well and be comfortable as you will be wearing them a lot each and every day that you are camping. Make sure that you also have some thick socks to wear with your hiking boots, too.
First Aid Kit
Hopefully, you won’t ever need to use it, but it is always worth bringing a first aid kit. However, it is always worth bringing a first aid kit just in case. You do not want to be in a situation where you need a first aid kit, and you do not have one. You can never 100% know what to expect when you go camping and enter the outdoors.
This is why it is important that you bring a first aid kit. It doesn’t need to be huge, but it does need to have all the essential parts that a first aid kit should have. You should check that everything is in date before you put in your backpack as some items may need replacing.
You are going to want to take pictures. That is perfectly normal when going camping. Make sure that you do not forget to pack it and that it isn’t next to anything that is going to break it. You could use the camera on your phone, but it isn’t the same as having a dedicated camera.
You should make sure that you have enough space on your memory card for plenty of pictures and that you know how to work the camera. There are all kinds of amazing sights, views, and wildlife that you can take pictures of. You will want to remember your camping trip for years to come and taking pictures with your camera is one of the best ways to do just that.
If you are bringing your smartphone and camera camping with you, then you will need some way of recharging their batteries. They might be fine for the first few days, but eventually, they are going to run out of charge and become useless. This is where bringing some spare batteries and a rechargeable battery pack becomes so important.
It is always worth having charge in your phone in case something bad happens and you need to call for help. Plus it can be useful for other things as well. You can get rechargeable battery packs that have USB slots so you can charge all kinds of devices. Once the charge in those has gone, though, you won’t have anything left to charge your devices, so be smart about when and what you charge.
Map and Compass
It doesn’t matter how well you think you know an area; you should always bring a map and compass. A map can show you all of the paths and routes and help you to determine where you are. The compass will let you know if you are going in the right direction or not.
You should use both of them together to ensure that you do not get lost and that you are always on the right track. You can use the map to plan your path in advance and then refer to it as you walk to the place where you are going to pitch your tent or the destination of your walk.
You want to be able to find your way back to your tent, car or home and not become lost. Paths might not be where you expect them to be or they might look different. With both a map and compass even if you get lost you should be able to find your way again without too much trouble.
