If you have been a reader of my blog for any time, you know how important spending time with my husband is. We protect our time together, and try to make sure to get away for short vacations together. Because of this, I always try to keep a getaway bag handy so that if my hubby calls and says he can get away, it won’t take me long to pack and be ready to go. Here are my tips for creating a getaway bag for your special date night.
I have this one particular bag that is only used for date night getaways. It’s small and can hold all my essential date night items like chocolate candies, special glasses for our drinks (we don’t do alcohol so we have to be creative using things like sparkling cider or juice), candles for the ambiance, and something a little special for those intimate times together while we are away.
I purchased the K-Y Yours+Mine at Walmart for around $15 for our #KYdatenight. Inside is a $40 code that will provide us with 2 dinners from Plated.com and a movie code from Vudu.com so that our weekend getaway would be complete!
You can find the item in the personal hygiene section at Walmart. Right now, it’s on rollback for $14.97, plus you get the added bonus of dinner and a movie for free.
Making each other feel special
I love getting away together for the simple reason that all of our distractions at home are no longer there. The kids and the dog, work, the crazy rat race of life — we leave all of that behind for just a couple of days so we can focus on each other.
During out time together, we talk about our hopes, our dreams, set goals together. It really is important to do this for your marriage.
How to Create Your Own Getaway Bag
If you want to get away, here are a few essentials you might want to include —
- both of your favorite candies
- romantic music cd (make your own of all of your favorite romance songs from your era)
- couples lubricants
- wine or other drink you prefer
- champagne or wine glasses (for that elegant touch)
- your overnight hotel coupons (to help save money on the stay)
- coupons you have saved for your dinner out (or if you don’t want to leave the room — order room service)
- and most importantly — TURN OFF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA and spend time together!
