Keeping our homes safe and secure should be something we think of all the time, but for some reason, during the winter months, there seems to be more of an outbreak of crime. Not sure why that is, but here are some tips to help you keep your home safe and secure this winter season.
Electronic Door Locks and keyless entry pads
One thing that I think is a very good safety device is having electronic door locks. With these, you never have to worry whether or not you locked a door. I am THE WORLDS WORST about forgetting to lock the door. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to turn back around and come back home to lock my doors.
You can find electronic door locks online at places like www.IlusElectronics.com.
By using electronic locks and keyless entry, you also don’t have to worry about forgetting a key. Simply type in your code and you can get in the house.
Keep all windows locked and secured
Once summer is over, sometimes we forget to put those screens down on the windows. This leaves a thief or burglar the option of popping your window open. Many times, we also forget to lock them so if your screen is up and the window is unlocked, you are basically inviting a burglar into your home. Be sure to lock and secure all windows and check them every single day.
Outside lights are always good this time of year. We have lights on the front porch, the carport, on the garage, and behind the house that stays on during the evening hours. This keeps a burglar from hiding in the shadows and attacking someone or better yet, breaking into your home or garage unseen.
If you do not have any installed, you should. They are fairly inexpensive and can be installed in one afternoon.
Using these tips will help keep your home safe and secure this winter.
