I do this with all of my rescue animals. I let them tell their story from their perspective. For Mittens, today — I thought I would let her tell you her story of how she came to be rescued by my daughter and how she found her forever home.
It was so hot that day — the day I was tossed from a moving car. I remember rolling down a hill and landing in the front yard of someone’s home. I looked all around me, saw cars whizzing by — flinching as each one sped on. I felt scared, alone, and afraid. My tail hurt, but I wasn’t sure why, and little trickles of blood began to matte in my whiskers and my fur on my face.
I started walking towards the house. All the blinds and doors were closed. I was so little and so afraid. There were so many dogs barking. I could tell they were close and knew that if any of them found me, I would be an afternoon snack.
I looked around and saw this huge green plant that had big leaves that hung all the way to the ground. I slowly made my way up to the plant and then climbed up under one of the leaves. At least here — I could find shade and get some sleep. I was so tired from this huge ordeal that I had just been through.
I don’t know how long I stayed under that big green leaf. Not sure if it was a few hours, a couple of days, or what. All I know is here I felt safe, so I just stayed put.
Soon, I spied a car pulling into the driveway. People got out and were talking. I saw this little girl, so I tried with all my might to meow. I could barely here myself, so I wasn’t for sure if anyone else could here me or not. The girl must have heard me because she pulled the big green leaf back and scooped me up in her arms. It was the first time since I was born that I felt safe and secure. Something about this little girl made me feel loved.
She cleaned up my wounds, gave me a bath, and posted pictures of me everywhere trying to find my owner. No one stepped forward to take me, so the little girl told her mom and dad that she wanted to keep me. I was so glad because she seemed like just the kind of friend and owner that I had always dreamed of having.
I have now been with them for a year and I have been SO taken care of. Everyone in the family loves me — including Tucker the chihuahua. We are best of friends and I am so thankful to have found my forever home.
