The past weekend we celebrated one of my friend’s who graduated from high school. I was so proud to watch him walk down the aisle and accept his diploma. His mom decided to have a graduation party for him at church, and of course, you know if you are celebrating with friends, there is no better way than to celebrate by sharing it forward with Coca Cola.
I met Jerod when my husband and I became the youth leaders at our church. He was always this bright bubbly teenager who just had SO much energy that it made me tired.
But what he made me do more than that was laugh. His joy and love of the world has always been contagious. We share many things in common such as our love of making YouTube videos (check him out because he is HILARIOUS).
We both could live in a house filled with books. He and I are the types of people that love to lose ourselves in a great book. And — we love traveling. Jerod took a trip last year to Europe that I can only dream of one day going on.
He and I hit it off right from the beginning. He is just a special young man and I know God has some amazing things for him in the future!
Now that he is graduating and leaving the youth group, we all got together to celebrate his accomplishments.
Of course, as soon as I knew we were celebrating, I went to Sam’s Club to grab some Cokes for the party. The day I went they had a demo booth going on, so I was able to try it and see some of the cool cans that have things like “Share a Coke with your BFF”, “Share a Coke with Friends” — which is exactly what we were going to do!
Unfortunately the day I went, the Coke was such a huge hit that they had sold out of all the specially marked named ones and all they had left were regular cans, but that’s okay because we knew that we were celebrating with friends that night.
That night for the party, everything was perfect. The Cokes were set on the counter so that everyone could grab one as they got their meal.
Then we all sat around chit chatting and remembering all the fun we have had with jerod over the last 4 years of youth group and high school.
Even his childhood friend got in on the ribbing.
Everyone had a great time that night. Jerod is heading off to University of Kentucky this year. I am SO proud of him. I have watched him grow into this wonderful young man full of life and ready to conquer the world.
All of us friends will remain here, having a coke in his honor while he studies hard and makes us all proud.
