Today is the first day of fall and while I am super excited because this is my favorite season of the year, it is also when my allergies get the best of me. The weather changes wreak havoc on my nose and throat, but there are some things that my kids and I do (because they suffer from this too) to help combat those nasty allergy symptoms.
Allergies are much different than a cold and are brought on by the things in your environment — dust, mold, pollen, pet dander, and some of the foods you eat.
So knowing this, how can we combat these aggravating allergies — especially when they last for weeks and weeks on end?
I know that I am not alone in my allergy issues. 35 Million people all over the world suffer — and they don’t even know it! They think that they are suffering from a cold and treat it as such, but it really is allergies.
You can use things like nasal saline, decongestants, and over the counter antihistamines. Not only that, but a CVS Minute Clinic nurse practitioner or physician can help recommend the right medication for the symptoms you happen to be suffering with.
Here are a few tips to help out and lessen the allergy symptoms you might be going through —
- Keep your windows closed from 10am-4pm every day which is when most of the particles fly through the air.
- Clean and change your air filters every 3 months to get rid of dirt, debris, and allergens flying around inside your home.
- Never use window fans! You will be allowing all of those outside allergens right into your home.
- Wash your bedding every 2 weeks to keep away dust mites.
These are just a few tips you can do. It’s impossible to keep everyone in your family from allergies, but you can lessen the symptoms by visiting your local CVS and the Minute Clinic to get relief.
