There is hardly anything more exciting and amusing than traveling. When you leave home, you have the entire world in front of you. Regardless of the length of your trip, it will be useful for you. Of course, it is nice to travel to another continent if you want to change your environment radically. However, you can escape from your daily routine just having a short trip several miles away from your house.
You will still find something new and authentic that will be newsworthy to you. Why do people enjoy traveling? They are looking for something new. Moreover, people like adventures whereas they contrast with their boring and monotonous everyday life. I enjoy adventures too. Sometimes I organize short trips with my friends who share my interests.
Sometimes we go to national parks, mountains, canyons, forests, etc. If we have time and mood, we go to another country to get acquainted with the new culture and its people.
Therefore, traveling is a part of my life. I dare say that very often my trips are unpredictable and troublesome. Thus, I would like to describe one unforeseeable case in this essay.
One day I suggested that we should go to Grand Canyon National Park at last because I had never been there before. We have dreamt about this trip with my friend Paul for years. We watched numerous discovery programs about Grand Canyon on TV and imagined our trip to this place. Unluckily, we did not have money and time when we were at school. What is more, our parents would never allow us to organize the trip of this kind without the participation of grownups. Fortunately, when you finish high school, you can be called a grownup person. We earned money working at the local café for a few months and decided to fulfil our dream. Of course, it was unreasonable to travel together with Paul. We required more people in our team.
It is always easier to discover new places in a group. In fact, no one agreed to accompany us and we went alone. I should say at once that this was a mistake.
We packed our bags with everything essential for our trip and loaded our car with tents, water and food inasmuch as we had to cover several hundred miles from Nevada to Arizona. The distance was not very long but still it required solid efforts and several sleepless hours. Our way to the national park was boring. Luckily there were no accidents. We did not meet any hitchhikers and we spent our time listening to music and playing traditional tedious car games.
Finally, we were in northwestern Arizona. When I took a look at Grand Canyon, I was impressed. I am not surprised that it is supposed to be one the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The canyon is so huge and perfect that you cannot believe that it was created by nature.
This natural wonder resembles a mountain chain turned upside down. I believe you will never find a similar place in the world.
Paul suggested that we should go together along the deep and colorful canyon that attracted his attention at once. We chose this direction and went for a few hours until it became dark. I wanted to set up a camp on the flat surface beside a huge rock. Paul denied and insisted on the continuation of our trip. We went for two hours more and understood that we were lost. We forgot to take a compass and it was impossible to find the way in the dark and monotonous corridor of rocks and chasms. Nevertheless, we tried to spend a night in the more or less safe place. In the morning we were shocked because we did not know the definite place of our location. If there were more of us, we could have found the way easier. We tried to follow several paths but they led us farther and farther. Paul refused to eat and drink because of stress and panic. I stayed cold-blooded and tried to find the way out. We wandered helplessly about the canyon for three days. One morning we woke up because we heard some voices. We realized that this was a group of tourists and we ran towards them. We said that we were lost and they laughed whereas our tent was located only one mile away from the entrance to the National Park.
After this short adventure in Grand Canyon I understood that one should train a lot to become a skillful tourism.
