This post and recipe for Quick and Easy Hush Puppies has been sponsored by Gorton’s. All opinions are 100% my own.
I will be honest — I am not much of a seafood person. I don’t eat salmon, can’t swallow an Oyster or clam to save my life — or any type of fish that has a horrendous smell. I just can’t do it. I tend to stick with fish that is light and easy on my nose and stomach. That is why most of my life I have always chosen cod. It is my favorite white fish on the planet and today, I am sharing with you a new favorite recipe of mine that pairs well with Gorton’s Parmesan Crusted Cod.
I recently was sent some coupons and swag from Gorton’s and was asked to check out the new packaging of their fish filets. They have SO many choices like Beer Battered fillets (my son’s favorite, classic grilled salmon (for all those salmon lovers), skillet crisp tilapia, but my favorite is the new Parmesan Crusted Cod — it is amazing!

I will be honest — I don’t normally buy fish to make it at home because I am picky. There is a certain way that I like my fish and I have not mastered cooking it that way yet. BUT Gorton’s, the leader in prepared frozen seafood, is teaching me how easy it is to make my favorite fish dinners right in the comfort of my own home.
The new packaging is perfect and comes with 2 large fillets in each box — making it easy to eat the right portions and have a very tasty dinner — in about 25-35 minutes.
My son is all about the pub style, beer battered white fish fillets that Gorton’s offers, but me? I am more of an everyday gourmet type of girl, so I knew I wanted to try the Parmesan Crusted Cod. My whole reasoning behind this is because my daughter is a lot like me, yet she HATES fish, so I wanted to see if I could get her on board of being a fish lover by having her try this gourmet version of fish.
Her answer? She LOVED it! Y’all I am not even joking. She hates fish with a passion, but she ate half of my fillet and said, “Mom — that is so good and I don’t even like fish. I could eat this all the time.”
For me, that is music to my ears and to know that Gorton’s seafood is changing the way my daughter views fish is the #1 reason I will continue to buy for as long as I want to eat fish.
So now let me tell you about my hush puppies that I make to serve right alongside these scrumptious fish fillets.
How to Make Quick and Easy Hush Puppies
Start with all your ingredients in a bowl —
- Corn Muffin Mix
- Diced Onion
- Dried Parsley
- salt and pepper
- 1/2 cup of canned corn, chopped
Mix all together and then heat some oil in a pan — I think ours was about 2″ deep. Let it heat to about 350-375 degrees and then drop in spoonfuls into the hot oil and let it fry.
Once they come out, place them on a paper towel lined plate to drain. At this point, you can sprinkle them with salt or drizzle with any kind of dipping sauce if you want.
I LOVE rustic looking hush puppies and I like the ones that are sweeter. I serve them with Malt Vinegar and my favorite Gorton’s fish.
- 1 pkg. Corn Muffin Mix
- 1 egg
- ⅓ cup milk
- ¼ cup flour
- ½ cup onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup of canned corn, chopped
- Combine muffin mix, egg, milk, flour, canned corn, and onion. Mix well. Drop by teaspoon into oil. Fry 4 minutes (2 minutes on each side) or until golden brown. Drain and serve.
