Most days I wake up and feel like I can whip the world into shape in an hour or less. I jump out of bed, drink my morning coffee, shower and head right into work without a care in the world. But then there are those days when my mood changes, my happiness level drops and I find myself just wanting to shut myself away.
Yes — some days I deal with depression. Now, granted, my depression levels are not nearly as bad as many blogging friends that I know, but I do suffer from it and I just finally admitted that to myself this year. Before that, I would deny that was what I was feeling. I would say – “Oh – I am just having an off day”, or “I am a very optimistic person. There is no way that I am dealing with depression.”
However, the more I have read about it, the more I come to realize that yes – I do suffer from it on more days than I care to count. The funny thing is that I found out that millions of people in the United States suffer from depression, with an estimated one in 15 adults (6.7%) experiencing at least one major depressive episode in any given year.
Because of learning this about myself, I started looking around for ways to help me as I manage my depression – and I found a free one that is new on the market from Pfizer.
It is a simple free app that I can download right from the iTtunes store that can help me track my moods and set goals for myself so I feel like I am moving forward and not stepping backward in life.
Treatment for depression often includes a number of approaches such as talk therapy, medication, peer support, and a personal wellness plan . I am a busy lady, so this app is perfect to give me direction when I need it most.
Let Me Tell You About the Moodivator App
The Moodivator app is designed to motivate and help me by allowing me to manage my mood, set goals and establish routines that can help support my busy lifestyle.
This app in no way replaces your current treatment plan if you are on one. It simply helps to complement it and helps you stay focused and on track with the bigger picture.
Many times, small tasks can feel difficult for me. I start to feel overwhelmed when I have way too many small irons in the fire. Through the Moodivator app, I can receive encouraging inspirational messages in the app to help motivate me along the way.
For instance — I was honest about how I was feeling this morning. I didn’t lie to myself or the app. I wrote this —
- Goal setting: You can create customizable, manageable goals with clear action steps that will help you achieve them. For me, I want to get up and move every single day. Goals can be adjusted over time and turned into helpful habits as part of an ongoing routine.
- Mood Management: A simple scale lets you manage how you are feeling when it is convenient for you – as many times a day as you need to. For me, I woke up feeling not okay today so I put that on the app.
- Sharing results: If you are up to it, you can share your goal progress with your care team, which can show the progress you have made through perfectly clear charts.
I love that Pfizer has worked hard to create this app to help people like me who suffer from depression and want to keep it monitored. They worked with leading psychiatrists to help complement your current treatment by providing ongoing motivation in a simple, efficient, and portable way.
