When you find a book that you simply cannot put down, you know that you have found a new favorite author. That is what I discovered when I recently read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.
When I was first approached and asked to review this book, I honestly wasn’t for sure if I was going to like it or not. I am not one for the fiction novels about war — but from the moment I opened this book, I simply could not put it down. Every page had me captivated — and it is rare these days to find a book like that.
The Nightingale comes from the #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristin Hannah. It’s a very emotional novel about two sisters set in France during World War II.
Like I said — I wasn’t expecting to like this book simply because I really am not a reader of historical romance novels. I am normally drawn in by suspense, modern romance, or thrillers.
But I found myself drawn into the lives of the characters here and not wanting to put it down. It’s a heart-pounding story that made my heart ache and then I found myself laughing and smiling through the tears.
I don’t want to spoil anything for you — but if you decide to read this novel, you will fall in love with the characters. Vianne, who is one of the sisters, had to muster up a lot of strength in this story.
And then there is Ari — who towards the end of this epic novel has a definite moment which you will not want to miss. You will find yourself shocked and horrified as you meet Isabelle (the younger sister) and all that she had to endure in the story.
When I read books like this, and find myself not wanting to put it down – I know that these are the kinds of heart wrenching stories I want to write. Ones my readers cannot put down.
This is truly a compelling and powerful story that makes you think about life during World War II.
