Holidays are meant to be full of experiences and unique situations. It’s meant to plunge you into unfamiliar territory so you can discover new sights and sounds that you couldn’t have imagined. Sadly, most holidays and travel experiences are filled with tailor-made tourist traps and expensive hotels.
Rarely do we ever step outside of our comfort zone because we don’t like surprises. Sure, we love to try out new foods, meet people and even see some tourist attractions, but we rarely ever go out into the wilderness and get lost for the sake of exploration.
If you want a holiday idea that combines both familiarity and exploration, then consider going on a road trip.
Road trips are easy to understand
There’s not much you need to understand when going on a road trip. Sure, there are some safety considerations and you might need to plan a little route so you don’t end up stranded in the middle of nowhere, but it’s a simple holiday to understand because it’s basic. You get in your car or truck, load up with supplies, then head out to wherever you want.
You can take anyone
Road trips are for everyone. You can take family, friends and even pets because you can decide what to do while you’re on the road. You don’t even need a destination, which means that as soon as you drive past something that looks fun or interesting, you can just stop and go check it out.
However, it’s always a good idea to bring people that you can agree with. There’s nothing worse than arguing in a car because you can’t decide where to stop for dinner.
It doesn’t require much
You don’t need much to have a great road trip experience. Simply take some spare batteries for your phone, your wallet and then you’re set. You won’t be going out to places that use a different currency and you’ll speak the same language as everyone else (unless you decide to road trip in another country which would be pretty difficult!).
You don’t even need a large car. A simple vehicle such as the Fiat Tipo is fine for a road trip. Anyone that says you need a caravan or an RV is over-exaggerating so don’t let it put you off.
Discover more of the world
Road trips are considered slow holidays. Driving is a slower method of transportation as opposed to trains and planes, but you get to experience more of the world. You’ll be able to meet more people, view more scenery and stop are more places. Honestly you can go wherever the road takes you.
You could choose to stay the night at an inn by the road. But you could journey from city to city and sleep in hotels or bed and breakfasts. You could go on a pub crawl across the entire country, or you could just make it a journey to drive from one end of the country to another. Either way, you’re going to experience a lot more of the world than if you flew to a popular tourist destination.
