One of my favorite things to do right before Valentine’s Day is to make treats to give to my family and friends. I love showering them with chocolates, sweets, and fun gifts. This year, I made a huge batch of these Chocolate Covered Valentine Pretzel Rods for my family to enjoy with dinner. They were a hit!
To make these, you really only need three ingredients — pretzel rods, melting chocolate in your choice of colors, and Valentine Sprinkles. Now if you are like me, you like to kick things up a notch, so I added in some chopped sliced almonds this time.
Start by melting your chocolate. The almond bark is my favorite because it is really hard to burn. It melts easy in the microwave and hardens quickly when put in the freezer.
You just chop it up in chunks and the, start with 30 second increments and melt it until it is smooth and creamy.
For the chocolate portion, we used melting chips that you can find in the baking section at any store. My favorite store to find those in is of course Hobby Lobby. They have every flavor known to man.
You melt them the same way you melt the other. I used it as the drizzling chocolate on top of my pretzel rods.
Once you have your chocolates melted, simply dip them in the white chocolate, then drizzle on the chocolate, and then sprinkle with your Valentine sprinkles and chopped almonds.
When you are done, place them all on a foiled lined tray and pop them in the freezer for just a few minutes to let the chocolate harden.
Once they harden, they can stay out a room temperature. You can put them in cute little tins like this one (I just picked it up for $1 at the local store) and wrap them in cellophane to give to a friend.
Or you can do like we did, and find a cute heart shaped serving tray and lay them out for your family to grab one whenever they want. The possibilities on ways to display these are endless.
Here’s the recipe! Hope you enjoy making and eating these as much as I did.
- 1 package of almond bark
- 1 package of chocolate melting chips
- 1 bag of pretzel rods
- Valentine Sprinkles
- Chopped Sliced Almonds
Melt your chocolates according to package directions.
Dip each pretzel in the chocolate and then sprinkle with the Valentine Sprinkles and almonds
Place them on an aluminum foil lined baking sheet and place in a freezer for just about 5 minutes. Serve at room temperature or wrap up and give as gifts.
