We all have a little black dress (LBD) tucked away in our closets and although they are a fashion staple, they can also look a little bland when worn over and over again. Now is the time to dust off the dress and head to your accessories to make those all important changes to a simple dress. You will look like you are wearing a new one every time you put it on.
Add in some color
Color is the first and most obvious way that you can add some depth to any LBD. Whether we choose to go for color blocked heals or a shrug for those chiller spring nights, there are literally hundreds of ways that we can add a little to our look. This season’s must have accessory are bright and bold, blocked heels, so that is where we will start. The beauty of this trend is that there really are no rules. You could pick a bright pink patent pair of Mary Jane’s or a gold pair of blocked court shoes because anything goes. The one rule is that they have to be bright!
Add some sparkle
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend after all, so the next step to take is to throw some ‘ice’ into the mix. Much like the scene in Pretty Woman when Edward gives Vivian the famous necklace to set off her dress, we all need that one special accessory that takes a bland dress to dizzying new heights. Nothing sets off a LBD like a classic cut, sapphire and diamond necklace, like this one from Michael Hill. This isn’t a look for an evening in a bar, but is the perfect choice for a dinner date, theatre, or special event.
Add in some relaxation
When we think about our favourite LBD, we often just consider it for nights of dancing or days of working but why can’t they be worn for rest times too. Maybe you are going to meet the girls for lunch, or you just want to have a day of wandering through the shops, either way you can dress down a LBD. Starting with adding a denim jacket, which let’s face it is a staple in spring weather.
Along with the addition of a denim jacket, you will also need to think about your shoes. Consider avoiding heels, this may not be what you want to hear but heels add sophistication and glamour to an outfit. You want to be aiming for the opposite of this and heading to ballet flats, or even Converse trainers. Yes you can wear a dress and trainers and still look polished!
However you choose to dress up you LBD, just remember that it is the one dress that you can rely on for a multitude of occasions make it the most versatile item in your wardrobe.
