Thanks to Litfuse Publicity for sending me a copy of High Cotton to review. All opinions and love for this book are 100% my own.
Shay Henke has mixed feelings about going to her family’s next reunion. On the one hand, she’ll get to see everyone she loves unconditionally. On the other hand, she knows there’ll be more drama than Carter has liver pills.
The days leading up to the event bring one surprise after another. First Shay must deal with her sister-in-law’s deep, dark secret. Then she has to contend with the childish ways of her business-mogul twin cousins. And when her high school crush wants to be her date to the reunion, it may be a dream come true for her teen self, but the woman she’s become doesn’t know what to make of it.
Shay’s contentment is challenged, and she’s determined to shake things up a bit. But will she find the excitement she’s looking for, or will she realize she prefers her quiet and predictable life?
This is the very first Debby Mayne book I’ve read. When I first started reading it, I wasn’t sure what to expect because the chapters are laid out a little different.
But once I got used to the layout and the writing, I was ALL IN! This book so reminds me of my own family reunions. Full of big Southern family drama, you cannot help but fall in love with this novel.
If you are a huge fan of movies such as Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias, you will love High Cotton. This book reminded me so much of two of my all time favorite movies.
Each chapter focuses on a member of the family and exactly what they have going on. This was a fun way to read this because you basically get everyone’s perspective through the entire novel. For me, my favorite character is Puddin’. She’s feisty, full of love for her family, and is one tough cookie!
Be sure and grab a copy of the book and let me know what you think!
