As I write this, I am having conflicted feelings. For one, our homeschooling journey is coming to an end. Another is because this is my daughters final year of high school. She is growing up so fast and I am hoping this year to teach her how to do a few things for herself — like preparing effortless meals like my amazing Marketside BBQ Chicken Sandwich.
It just seems like yesterday that my sweet adorable little girl was starting 3rd grade in our homeschool.
I think to myself, have I taught her everything she needs to know to be successful in life? Have I prepared her enough to be able to withstand everything life is going to throw at her? I can only hope.
One thing that I know that I can show her is how to care for herself through delicious meals from Walmart. The Marketside selections that are available in the deli section of Walmart are perfect to show her how to make yummy meals.
Whether it’s high school or college, back to school time can be hectic for anyone. I know how I feel on those nights when we are all just run ragged and I still have to prepare dinner. I don’t want her to feel that added pressure, so I am taking the time now to show her how to make easy meals that are light on her budget and easy to prepare.
Effortless Meals are convenient to purchase, they help provide healthy, fresh options for dinner during back-to-school, and create a positive mealtime experience for everyone in my family.
I want her to be able to make yummy meals for herself once she leaves the nest. I don’t want her to think that she always has to eat fast food — so I took her to Walmart today to practice grocery shopping, coupon clipping, and meal preparation.
She chose to use the Rotisserie Chicken and Market Fresh Sides from Walmart to make our sandwich — and we found some delicious wheat rolls on the clearance bread shelf for only .56.
Of course a fizzy 2-liter of Coca Cola is also a definite must for any meal.
I love how Walmart offers all different kinds of effortless meals — Quick and easy pizzas (and now they have $5 hot and ready pizzas), Rotisserie Chickens, ready to go sides — and my favorite — the sandwich, chips, and a Coca-Cola!
The signage at Walmart makes it easy for me to find what to make for dinner with little effort! While I didn’t choose the sandwich option, I made sure to show this to my daughter so she could see that even this way, she can make a quick meal for herself.
So here is how she put this delicious sandwich together…
She started by pulling off a little of the chicken to shred for her sandwich.
Then she sliced her bread roll and topped the bread with her shredded chicken.
To really take this chicken sandwich over the top, she added some Marketfresh cole slaw to the top of her sandwich and put a little on her plate as well.
A bbq sandwich of any kind topped with cole slaw is phenomenal 🙂 Just try it.
Then, to make this sandwich a BBQ chicken sandwich, she topped it with our easy homemade bbq sauce. If you don’t have that, you can simply use store bought.
I think she did a fabulous job making this sandwich.
I have been working hard on creating her a recipe book to take with her when she moves out one day. This way, she will always be able to find her favorite effortless meal and make herself something delicious!
To finish this tasty meal off, Kayla poured herself a glass of Coca-Cola.
I hope that all the things I show her this year, she takes to heart and uses them to make life a little easier on her as she matures and gets older.
I get sad when I see my baby girl grow up, but having her as my grown up best friend is the best feeling in the world.
