This morning as I opened my Bible, I felt God leading me to 1st Corinthians. As soon as I began reading the first chapter, I knew the word He was wanting to share with me.
Now I urge you brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all say the same thing, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction. For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by members of Chloe’s household, that there are quarrels among you. What I am saying is this: Each of you says, “I’m with Paul”, or “I’m with Apollos”, or “I’m with Cephas”, or “I’m with Christ”. Is Christ divided? Was it Paul who was crucified with you? Or were you baptized in Paul’s name? 1st Corinthians 1:10-13
Lately I have seen so much quarreling going on between God’s people. It has literally made me sick. Sick at heart, sick to my stomach, and I know that is the Holy Spirit within me showing me what I do not want to be a part of.
Quarreling. It hurts God.
Why do Christians quarrel among each other?
I have seen great friendships destroyed because of quarreling. I have seen religions strained because of differing beliefs. The one thing though I have yet to see, is the fact that these folks–the ones I have witnessed quarreling with each other, say this:
We may not agree about our beliefs, but we agree about ONE thing–and that is Jesus is our Lord and Savior.
As Christians, how can we let something so trivial ruin friendships? Pleasing God is THE most important thing for any believer in Christ. Turning your back on other believers because of a fleshly quarrel is NOT the way to please God.
I urge you today, if you have had a quarrel with another believer because of something that they have done, or something that they believe in that you do not–STOP! Go find them, pray with them, apologize and then agree to disagree! You may not feel the same way about certain things, but the one thing you should feel the same about is the place that Jesus holds in your life. Numero Uno–number 1–that is where Jesus should be and should stay.
