Are you one of those people who dreams of traveling the world? Perhaps you’ve always wanted to expand your horizons and experience things beyond your usual environment, finding out what other cities are like and looking out across dazzling oceans in far flung locations. Well, you’re not alone. But what you need is a bucket list of adventures to make sure you experience a good mixture of things. Here are just a few to consider adding to your list…
The Northern Lights in Iceland
The Northern Lights are a spectacular sight to see – so if you’ve always wondered what the fuss is about, make sure you pay Iceland a visit. Iceland sits within the Arctic Circle, and being so easy to reach with a short plane journey, it’s fast becoming a popular tourist destination.
There’s plenty to do there, but it’s the Northern Lights that really steal the show. If you’re lucky enough to see streaks of green sweeping through the night sky, you’ll understand what people mean by the majesty and mysticism of the natural phenomenon – it’s a sight that will stay with you forever.
Beer tasting in Germany
If you’re a fan of beer, Munich’s Oktoberfest is too good of an event to miss: pull up a stool along with fellow beer-lovers, choose a tray of brews to sample, and soak up the atmosphere all around you. You’re bound to try something you love, and you’ll probably make a friend or two along the way.
Other great beer festivals include Alaska’s Beer and Barley Wine festival, Bruges’ Beer Festival, Australia’s Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular, and Japan’s Keyaki Hiroba Spring Beer Festival. For more beer inspiration, see what’s made the telegraph’s shortlist, see where it’s brewed and book yourself a plane ticket, pronto.
The Pantheon in Greece
Consider yourself a bit of a culture vulture? Greece should definitely be on your bucket list of places to see. It’s the birthplace of democracy, and a destination that’s been a place central to western art, politics and architecture.
There’s no better place to see the remnants of this than in Athens, with the breath-taking Pantheon towering above the city. Head there first thing in the morning to see the sunlight illuminating massive Corinthian columns: it’s atmospheric and an incredible way to connect yourself with the past.
The Empire State Building in NYC
Having stood for almost 100 years, the Empire State Building is one of New York City’s most iconic buildings. From atop the tower, you’ll enjoy incredible views across the city: on a clear day you’ll be able to see five states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts), and if you time your visit between Thursdays and Saturdays (between 9am and 12am), you’ll hear a live saxophonist playing on the 86th floor observatory. Memorable, indeed!
Gambling in Las Vegas
If you can handle the view from atop the Empire State Building, you’ll probably be able to handle the height above the vast Grand Canyon as you soar through the air in a helicopter. Helicopter tours depart from all over the canyon, taking visitors high into the sky to see the incredible scenery below.
Soak up the sights at this natural wonder of the world, admiring the river snaking its way across the valley floor, and marvel at the enormity of the earth below you.
Which of these bucket list adventures do you want to try first? And are there any others you really want to experience?
