California is among the top destinations for tourists in the U.S. This isn’t just because of the theme parks there that are family friendly and can provide days of entertainment either. Like the other states that are located on the West Coast, there are magnificent coastlines, deserts, waterfronts, and national parks to explore.
You can also see iconic architecture and if you visit Hollywood, you might even do some celebrity watching. It doesn’t matter if you are in the mood for educational or cultural activities, mainstream entertainment, or if you just want to commune with nature, California really does have it all.
Here is a look at some of the places to visit and things to do in California.
California has lush valleys, snowy mountains, rocky coasts and gorgeous beaches that will give you experiences that would be hard put to find anywhere else… and definitely not all in the same state. In San Diego, you will find that there is a laid back, surf-like attitude that is contagious and they have a zoo there that is known all over the world.
You will find Welk Resorts there and this is a fantastic place to spend your vacation. If you opt to go to Los Angeles, you can see the historic attractions in Hollywood that will keep you busy taking pictures. San Francisco is where you will go if you feel like a trolley ride through the hills.
Then you have wine country where you will be able to please your palate. If you want to have nature for a playground, try Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. You will come to find that there are resorts in all of these locations that can offer you the best way to relax on your vacation.
A Bit of Fun for the Kids
Let’s say that you do decide to spend your vacation in San Diego. Are there any activities that you and your kids will love there? Absolutely! One of those places is Legoland. All kids love Legos! Legoland is filled with more than 50 shows, rides, and attractions that have been designed to provide the entire family with entertainment.
You might be a pirate sailing a galleon in Splash Battle or a knight fighting in the Knights’ Tournament. You might even want to be a firefighter and put out a few fires at the Fun Town Fire Academy. Attractions and rides are there that do not have any sort of height restrictions too. This is just a single example of the places that you and your children can visit in California. There are many more including Disneyland and Sea World.
Do you have an affinity for all things oceanic? If so, you might want to see the grunion running at Coronado Beach. This is one of the great California traditions. This is something that you will have to do at night. Grunion is a fish that is about 5 inches long and has the colors silver, blue, and green.
They run only during the high tide and at night and only for a short period of time after full and new moons between the months of March and September. What happens is that they come up onto the shore by the thousands and lay their eggs right there in the sand. This is something that has to be seen to be both believed and appreciated.
Yosemite is a national park that is full of gorgeous wilderness. It rests right alongside the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are waterfalls and granite cliffs that have the type of beauty that you can only find on the West Coast. There was a naturalist by the name of John Muir, who found this area to be so incredibly stunning that he worked tirelessly to preserve both the Yosemite Valley as the land that surrounded it as a national park before such a thing was even in existence.
All you have to do is visit any spot in the park to understand what was worth the fight to preserve it. Now, every single generation can come here and experience this magnificent and pristine land just like Mr. Muir did more than a century ago.
