I used to try to deny for the longest time that I am a writer. When someone asks me what I do for a living, I would answer, “Oh, I’m just a blogger.” I would pretty much shoot myself in the foot before I even got started.
However, it wasn’t too long ago that my mind shift changed. Somehow, I no longer saw myself as “just a blogger”, or a “mom blogger”, or even just a social media influencer, or someone who writes articles occasionally for other clients.
I started viewing myself as what I was — a writer, a storyteller, a content creator. And somehow, that mindshift gave me the courage to start really pursuing what I love to do more than anything in the world — and that is to write.
Of course, writing for me is an all day process. I am asked all the time — how do you do it? How do you stay on the computer all day long cranking out content for yourself and for others? The answer is simple friends — coffee — my lifeblood, or as my husband refers to it as — my think juice!
While shopping for coffee at Walmart the other day, I ran up on a brand new coffee pod and my heart soared y’all! How did I get so lucky that my favorite creamer would come out with the perfect coffee pod blend? NESTLÉ® COFFEE-MATE® 2 in 1 Coffee + Creamer Single Serve Pods in either French Vanilla or Hazelnut are the newest combinations out there!
COFFEE-MATE® 2 in 1 single serve pods combine quality NESCAFÉ® medium roast coffee with delicious COFFEE-MATE® Hazelnut flavored creamer. The hazelnut creamer has always been my favorite, so when I saw that they had this in the coffee aisle, of course, I snatched it up!
Thanks to these coffee pods, getting my morning dose of coffee has never been easier. Not only that, but I was excited to see the $2.50 offer on Ibotta when you purchase the product as well.
Having this available in one step keeps me from having to run to the refrigerator to pour creamer in my coffee — and if you are half asleep like I am most days, you won’t accidentally grab the hummingbird nectar — don’t ask!
A Day in the Life of a Writer
I get up at 6:00 a.m. every single morning, and before the day even begins (even before I let the dog out), that coffee pot is brewing! I can’t even begin to think about attempting work without getting at least a half a cup of coffee in me.
I take my NESTLÉ® COFFEE-MATE® 2 in 1 Coffee + Creamer Single Serve Pods and shake it up a bit to mix everything together before I start the brewing process. After that, I always make sure to run some hot water through, just to make sure it doesn’t get clogged up.
After letting the dog out, I will sit in pure silence (except for the background noise of the television) and brainstorm some new writing ideas. It’s at this place that storytelling is born. I think about what it is I want to share with my readers and my followers and I jot down a few notes to help me craft my post or article.
Of course, the whole time I am doing this, I have coffee in hand, taking sip after sip to help me get in mind all that I need to write about.
After the brainstorming session, I give my mind a break for a while and open up whatever current novel I happen to be reading at the moment. They say to be a good writer you need to read a lot, and well — I read ALL THE TIME. Most months, I can read anywhere from 6–8 books, depending on how busy we are.
There is nothing more wonderful than a good book, a cup of hot coffee, and my cozy blanket.
Once everyone has gotten up and gone to work, that’s when the real work sets in!
I get to my workstation (aka the dining room table) and let my fingers hit the keys! I love writing so much that I don’t even notice the time, and before you know it, I’ve blown through lunch!
I have to set reminders on my phone to stop and take a break and eat something — and then get back to work. During a work day, I always make sure to have a list of all things I want to get accomplished for writing that day and mark each one off as I finish them.
For me as a writer, this helps me to carve in time for writing my novel I am working on — and the e-cookbook I am currently creating (see I told you — I write a lot)!
I cut myself off from the computer around 3:30 p.m. to give myself time to relax before cooking dinner. You would think that during this time I would have a cup of coffee — but no! I save that for after dinner while watching television with the husband.
Like I said — I begin my day with coffee and I end my day with coffee. To me, coffee not only keeps my creative juices flowing for my writing, but it is also my way of winding down after a very busy work day.
My advice for anyone wanting to write, I am going to tell you what was told to me — own the title. Be the writer — do the work. Write. We make time for the things in our life that are important to us and if writing is that thing for you, then I say go for it! Nothing has been more fulfilling in my life that doing what I do now — write for a living.
