Fall break is right around the corner for our area and that means many families will be heading out to a new destination. Many of these families (mine included), always take our pets along, so today I wanted to share with you some tips to get your pet ready for fall travel.

5 Tips to Get Your Pet Ready for Fall Travel

Tucker and I created this video to share with you, but we will also list our tips in the post as well.

5 Tips to Get Your Pet Ready for Fall Travel

Tip #1: Always bring something of comfort from home

For us, that means toting along Tucker's bed and some of his very favorite toys. This way, he can snuggle up in his bed, close his eyes, and feel like he is right at home.

Tip #2: Keep water and food close by so that when they get hungry or thirsty, you can reach it

We bring along a collapsible water bowl, his Nutrish dog food, and anytime we stop to get something to eat, we give him the chance to eat too.

Tip #3: Bring along their favorite treats

Tucker's Savory Jerky treats hit the spot any time we are traveling. Sometimes, just by laying in his bed and chewing away on one of these, he forgets that we riding somewhere and he settles in nicely.

Tip#4: Let your dog sit in your lap

Tucker loves to be super close to me, so most of the time, you will find him riding in my lap — with the wind in his hair, a smile on his face, and the sun shining down on his closed eyes. This is when he is totally blissful.

Tip#5: Stop frequently to let your dog stretch their legs

Tucker is small, but many large dog breeds get cramped in vehicles, so it's best to stop every now and then and let them stretch their legs and use the bathroom. It's not good on your pets to hold their bladder for several hours — and it's not good on us either! So make sure to make frequent stops, stretch your legs  — go running up and down with your pooch — before heading back out again.

Now that you have MY five tips, I would love to hear some of your own.
