Over the weekend, my family and I traveled to Nashville to attend the Grilling Guru Event hosted by Macy’s. I have never been to one of these events before, so I was super excited to watch and taste some delicious food.
Since I am part of the media to cover this event, I got an invitation to go back stage and interview the competition and the chefs that would be judging as well.
I was extremely excited about talking to the competing chefs, because I had a question burning in me that I just HAD to get the answer for — how could someone like ME get started doing what they are doing?
They were extremely excited to learn that I was interested in doing what they do. They gave me some amazing advice. In fact, Adam (the white guy on this end) was the local from Nashville and this was his very first competition EVER!
We really enjoyed talking with them and I walked away from this interview with excitement for my own future — knowing that I am now going to find some contests to enter and compete in.
They shared with us their love for food, and the inspiration behind each dish they were preparing. Eric’s inspiration was a Brazil — and his Chicken Lollipops inspired by this visit is what took him home the win!
While we watched the competition do their thing and cook, the chef’s that were judging prepared a delicious several course sample meal for us to enjoy!
We started with a delicious drink of Horchata — which I have never had before.
It was absolutely delicious! I plan on re-creating this drink at home.
After drinks, we had a couple of different salads — a grilled Ceasar and a Shrimp Salad with Peanut Sauce.
The peanut sauce on that shrimp salad was the most amazing sauce I had ever tasted before.
Then we were treated to a couple of different sandwiches — a brat sandwich with peppers and onions, and a grilled chicken and slaw sandwich.
While we were enjoying our samples, the host Wells Adams was doing trivia about the competition and chefs, and guess what? I WON!
I got to answer a question about @ChefMichy and it got me a beautiful Macy’s cookbook and two delicious fudge and caramel sauces.
Of course, while we were there being catered by the chefs with all that yummy food, that didn’t stop the local vendors from providing samples as well.
We had food from Smoothie King, Pie Five Pizza, and more. Everything was SO darn delicious!
Our last course of samples was an amazing Peach Fried Pie and while I ate this, I awaited the winner to be announced.
The food the chefs noted was all delicious and everyone had very distinct and different flavors.
But in the end — Chef Eric took the win. Those chicken lollipops were HARD to beat!
I cannot wait to attend another event like this. Check your area because most of the time, all it takes is an ESVP to attend something like this. Everything here is free and is fun for the whole family!
We had a great time on this day and I am looking forward to the day I am standing there holding that big check!
