Gulf State Park Pier in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Alabama

Sharing is caring!

Thanks to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism for sending my husband and I on this awesome romantic getaway. All opinions listed are 100% my own.

Staying in Gulf Shores and visiting all the amazing places that we visited like the Coastal Arts Center and Alligator Alley were awesome, however, the one place that my husband and I were super excited about checking out was Gulf State Park Pier. We had heard so many fishing stories from some of the local residents while at dinner at Cayman Grill the night before that we knew we just had to check it out.

The pier is a fun location to people watch and to see anglers reel in their catches, day or night. The pier is open 24 hours a day and is the largest one on the Gulf of Mexico at 1,540 feet long and 41,800 square feet.

On our last day there, after loading up our van and saying goodbye to our beach side condo, we drove to the Pier, which was only just a few minutes away from our condo.

Walking the Gulf State Park Pier

We could have fished if we wanted to. It was only $8 a person, but we decided to just watch and talk to a few of the people fishing. My husband immediately made friends with a guy who was casting his bait over and over again trying to catch a fish.

I loved how amazing the walk was on the Pier.  In fact, I learned a fact about the Pier — it was destroyed in 2004 by Hurricane Ivan and had to be rebuilt. It comes with a full bait and tackle shop, a place to eat and, an amazing view at the water.

While we were looking at the water, I noticed this HUGE dark spot that kept moving. Once I got my eyes focused, I realized it was a MASSIVE sting ray! While I was not able to get a picture of it, there have been a ton of people who have been able to photograph the sting rays at the Pier.

We had such a great time visiting the Gulf State Park Pier and look forward to coming back here and actually FISHING the next time we visit Gulf Shores.

We didn't get to go the pier on our last stay in Gulf Shores, but I don't want to miss it again. I love to see what the fishermen are pulling in. It's quite the education for the kids - and adults too! The day we were there, someone caught a shark and that was the end of my son getting in the water! lol Luckily, he kind of forgot about that on our next trip :)
