Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

Sharing is caring!

Ditch the store-bought hot chocolate mix! Make your own super easy homemade hot chocolate mix with this simple recipe. It is rich, and creamy, and makes some of the best hot chocolate you have ever tasted!

My daughter loves homemade hot chocolate. We have been making our own for years with this simple recipe and today I get to share it with you.

How to Make your own homemade hot chocolate mix from scratch

This mix uses simple pantry ingredients such as powdered milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, and sugar. That's it! If you want to skip the powdered version, make this slow cooker hot chocolate with no powder. It is so insanely delicious!

Ingredients needed for Homemade Hot Chocolate mix recipe:

This recipe is so simple you are not going to believe it yourself.  You only need 4 ingredients to create this easy homemade hot chocolate mix. If you are like me and keep a stocked pantry, then I am guessing you already have these on hand.

  • Sugar
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • Powdered Milk
  • Salt

That’s all you need to create this easy recipe that is delicious and will save you money.  There is no reason why you should make this recipe today!

So let's make some hot cocoa mix!

I put them in my Nutra Ninja blender, but you can use a food processor if you want, and puree everything together to create a powder-like substance just as you would find in the store-bought packets of hot cocoa mix.

I buy these festive jars from the Dollar Store during the holidays and use them when I make gifts in a jar. You can tie a ribbon around the jar, or — you can just use the lids they come with.

Then, when you are ready to make a cup of hot chocolate, mix 1/3 cup of the mixture with water. Mix together and you will have a delicious cup of hot cocoa.

Homemade Hot Cocoa mix is budget friendly:

This is WAY cheaper than the boxed variety that you buy at the store and has a much better flavor if you ask me. A typical 10-count box of cocoa will cost you about $1 if it is on sale. You can make this homemade hot chocolate mix for under $1 and it will give you over 20 servings!

If you want to get really creative with gift-giving, you can make personalized Sharpie coffee mugs. I use this tutorial here and they always come out perfect.

Homemade Hot Chocolate is simple and easy to make at home.

How long will Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix last?

You can store the hot cocoa mix in cute containers or you can just use a plastic tub. Either way, this mix will last up to 6 months.

This cocoa mix also makes great holiday gifts. Add a couple of cute mugs from the Dollar Tree and you have the perfect gift for someone. You can also make a batch of my Christmas Haystack Cookies to give along with it as well.
