If you were hoping to do some traveling this year, you might well be wondering whether that is going to happen at all, or if it is – then what you are going to need to consider.
If you are a keen traveler and you are wondering what you should do and how you should approach it, it is most important first of all to make sure that you are aware of as many of the issues that you need to be aware of as possible.
In this article, we are going to look through some of the important advice that you will want to consider at the moment if you are hoping to travel sometime soon.
Should You Cancel?
The first question that most people will be wondering if they are due to go somewhere is whether or not they should cancel the trip.
There is no one answer to this problem. In one respect, the official advice from the CDC is that you should be away from people and for best measures, staying inside your home.
This is likely to continue to be in place for the next few months, so if your trip was due to fall in that bracket, then you might want to think about canceling it.
However, if you have something booked for later in the year, it is probably a little premature to cancel it just now, and you should wait instead.
Then there is the issue of where you are going. Whatever time of year you are going out, if you are due to travel to a high-risk area, then you might want to think about whether it is really wise to go there anymore.
If you were hoping to go to Italy or China, for instance, you might find that the most sensible thing is to simply not go and go another year instead.
At the moment, it is up to you, although you might find that in some cases flights are being stopped to where you wanted to go, in which case the decision is going to essentially be made for you.
Keep an eye on the news and the flight deck, and make the decision that you feel is sensible to make, taking into account the health of yourself and everyone you come into contact with.
What About Planning for Travel Next Year?
Maybe you are not worried about this year at all, but you are wondering whether you are going to be able to travel next year.
At the moment, it looks as though most of the trouble will have passed by next year, certainly to the point where international travel should open up again and become considerably easier and freer to do again.
According to the best guess from experts at present, it should take around eight months for everything to get back to normal, so in that timeline traveling next year will hopefully be okay.
But again, think carefully about your destination, just in case, and remember that booking something now still is something of a risk.
But if you are just so excited about that condo rental in Singapore or your Parisian dream holiday, then booking something for next summer might work out just fine.
Should You Go On A Cruise?
If you have a cruise booked in and planned, you might be wondering whether it is wise to go on that this year.
As it happens for this year in light of everything currently going on in the world, the CDC is advising against all cruise travel this year, saying that you should defer it to the next year.
They are advising especially that older people or those who might be immunocompromised do not go on cruises, but also say that anyone should avoid them more generally.
So if you have a cruise planned, you might want to see what you can do about getting it changed for next year.
Will You Get Money Back?
If you have a holiday booked and you have to cancel, you are going to want to try and recuperate your money.
The good news is that many travel agents, airlines and so on have been pretty good on offering money back, whether in part or in full or in offering a deferral of the holiday on to next year or a later time.
