Home Gym Equipment
With the new year just around the corner and holiday sales making workout equipment cheaper, it’s a no brainer that people will be clamoring for the equipment. However, with all of the new people who are starting to work out, there are bound to be injuries.
Busted lips, scraped knees, pulled backs, muscle aches, and tons of other things can happen without adequately exercising.
Although these injuries are usually inflicted on newer exercisers, it can happen to people who use all the time too. When accidents do occur, it’s always good to be prepared.
Injuries from Exercising
There are four common injuries that any person who exercises can get. The first of these are sprains and strains. These can happen through careless or stressful workout practices. Stuff like twisting an ankle or knee, straining a calf muscle, and carelessly injuring your body.
These are considered reckless, but sprains are accidents. Many strains can usually be avoided by stretching before your workout and by knowing your limit.
The second injury that can occur on this list is muscle cramps. These injuries can happen if you push yourself too hard, you're too out of shape, or if you haven’t stretched. It can also occur by not drinking plenty of water or by drinking too much water at once.
The third on this list are bruises. These can occur from falling, banging against something, or dropping something on yourself.
While most of this can’t be avoided, it is always a good idea to stretch before working out, drink water, and paying attention to your surroundings.
The final injury that can be sustained is inflammation. Inflammation occurs when a person pushes their body too far. Mainly this affects athletes and gym rats alike, but it can also happen to everyday gym-goers as well.
What can help with sprains and strains is rest, ice, and ace bandages that wrap around the injury, keeping it still and stiff. This treatment allows the wounds to heal correctly.
Also, it’s not a terrible idea to take some ibuprofen, Tylenol, or Advil to help with the pain. For muscle cramps, the remedy is rest, ice, massages, and elevation. These will help work out the muscle cramps, and you’ll be able to heal faster.
Bruises are hard to take medical care of. There’s nothing you can put on it and it just goes away in time. There are some things you can do to help it heal faster. You can rest, put ice on it, and also stay off of it, or limit the use of the area the bruise is in.
Finally, inflammation is treated with meds, but not high-grade meds. You can just use ibuprofen as it helps with pain, inflammation, and fever. Also, rest works well and so does ice and ace bandages to help keep the pain in one spot.
For many injuries, you can find all the supplies you need at medical stores and facilities. In rare cases, you may need medical care, but it’s not usually the case when just typically exercising.
However, dehydration happens too, so make sure to drink plenty of water. So stalk up on medical supplies, get some ibuprofen, and have ice readily available to ensure that when an injury happens, you’re prepared for it.
