Kentucky Horse Park in Georgetown Ky is a MUST SEE Attraction

Sharing is caring!

Thank you to Georgetown/Scott County Tourism for providing complimentary tickets to the Kentucky Horse Park. All opinions listed are 100% my own.

When I visited Georgetown, KY recently I honestly never thought I would fall madly in love with a little town like I did. When they say “small-town charm”, they mean it.

Everything about my weekend here was amazing — including my visit to the Kentucky Horse Park — a park dedicated to celebrating the history of the relationship with a horse through education, exhibition, engagement, and competition.

Now, you may remember that I talked about the Old Friends Farm, which focuses on retired racehorses, the Kentucky Horse Park focuses on the beauty of show horses and competition such as Saddle horses, barrel racing and more.

What to See and Do at the Kentucky Horse Park

There are SO many things to see and do while you visit the Kentucky Horse Park. On the day of our visit, not only did we get to see all the attractions while there, but there was an actual competition going on.

We got to watch these young riders prance their beautiful horses around the arena, waiting to win that coveted 1st prize spot.

Parade of Breeds Show

I have to admit, I have always been enamored by show horses. I love watching them perform. In fact, Michele and I loved watching the Parade of Breeds Show.

During this show, you learn all about the history of each breed, the characteristics most often are seen, and the actual horse that represents the breed at the Park.

And the best part? After the show, you get to meet the riders, trainers, and pet the horses — which is always my favorite part.

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE horses?

Trolley Ride Around the Farm

I loved taking the trolley ride around the farm, which is pulled by the Big Barn draft horses.

It helps you to really get a feel of what all goes on here and you get an up-close look at all the fun things you want to see while here.

Hall of Champions

The Hall of Champions was awesome! Each beautiful horse was brought out and their story shared.

Here, Thoroughbred legends Da Hoss, Funny Cide, and Go for Gin, as well as American Quarter Horse Be A Bono, Standardbred Trotter Mr. Muscleman, and Standardbred Pacers Staying Together, Western Dreamer, and Won The West are shown in daily presentations.

Kids Barn

The kid's barn is super interactive. I loved watching all the little ones learn about horses and play with all kinds of horse related toys. They learn how to get in the saddle, and if they play their cards right when the horses come out, they get to pet them as well.

Kids have the opportunity to help the friendly staff groom horses, go on scavenger hunts, and jump their own course of fences, on foot, in the “Champion's Arena” located in the grassy area right beside the barn. Both children and adults can learn about the basics of horses and how to care for them.

American Saddlebred Museum

Once you are done touring the park, walk the short distance to the American Saddlebred Museum which is full of amazing history!

I loved looking at the rich historical items from back in the day — and learning so much about the showing of horses. The American Saddlebred Museum highlights the role Saddlebred horses have played in American history and culture. From a large research library to exhibits and a gift shop, this museum is the world’s best place to learn about American Saddlebreds.

This place is truly magical and will awe you like you won't believe it. I felt like a little girl all over again. I fell madly in love with Black Beauty — the first horse I ever really truly loved.

This would be a great stop during a road trip there. However, I am not very fond of animal shows. It would be great to see them in open. I am glad that you have had a great time with kids there.
