Paula Deen’s Old Fashioned Whoopie Pie

Sharing is caring!

This Old Fashioned Whoopie Pie recipe is the perfect dessert to keep on hand in the fridge.

I love Paula Deen! A few years ago she made a dessert on her show that had me drooling! These little dudes are SO good. They don't really take that much time to create either–and it makes a TON!

She called them Two Brothers Chocolate Gobs, but really it is just an Old Fashioned Whoopie Pie.

Don't they just look mouth-watering? I know. . . I amaze myself sometimes!

How to Make Old Fashioned Whoopie Pie

Making these are simple and easy.

In a small bowl, combine cocoa and warm water. Cool for 5 minutes.

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and cocoa mixture. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.

Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a spoon.

Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until firm to the touch. Remove to wire racks to cool.

In a small saucepan, combine flour and salt. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth; cook and stir over medium-high heat until thick, 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate until completely cool.

In a small bowl, cream the shortening, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add milk mixture; beat for 7 minutes or until fluffy. Spread filling on half of the cookies; top with remaining cookies. Store in the refrigerator.

Now that you have this super easy recipe you need to go to the kitchen and make a batch of these. I make a whole bunch and wrap in plastic wrap. Then I store them in the refrigerator for a quick and easy dessert.
