I recently had the privilege to view an episode of the newest drama on Pure Flix, Going Home. I write this review with mixed emotions because this one hit home — just a little too hard for me. Let me explain.

A Little Info About Going Home

“Going Home” is a new series that follows an inspiring team of nurses who help guide patients and loved ones on the ultimate journey – one of transition from this world to their forever home.

It’s a race against time as the team must help their clients find peace and wrap up loose ends with compassion and dignity.

This show features Charisma Carpenter from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”.

Jen's Thoughts

Three years ago, I had my first meeting with my dad's hospice nurse. He went from being a vibrant man to a shell in about a two month time span. He had stage 4 lung cancer and once the nursing home said there was nothing left to do, my sister brought him home with hospice care.

I listened as she explained everything we needed to do to make my dad comfortable. She was amazing at everything and so compassionate. It honestly takes a special person to be able to do this type of job.

This show is raw and honest and REAL. Watching the first few episodes was hard for me, because I had just been through this not too long ago with my dad. But seeing all the care that goes into being a hospice nurse and all that they have to do, it is a wonderful job. I am so glad that there are women and men called to this position.

People like me who are struggling with their loved one passing. People like me who don't know how to deal with watching them wither away to nothing. Hospice nurses are there to lead and guide and nurture us just as much as they are there for helping our loved ones pass without the pain.

While this show was hard for me to watch, not because it's not good — because it is great, I found myself peaceful and enjoying each family's story.
