Spring is almost here, which means most of us are looking forward to getting our homes ready for a fresh start and a new season. Of course, the best way to get this done is by having a good spring cleaning session. No one really enjoys cleaning, but once you get going and begin to see the results, the sense of accomplishment you get is a wonderful feeling. Your home looks good too!
We're familiar with hoovering the carpets, dusting the shelves and changing all the bed linen, but are you cleaning as thoroughly as you could be? The truth is, many places collect dirt, grime and germs and we simply don't think to clean them!
Wondering what they are? Read on for your ultimate spring checklist and which places you shouldn’t forget to clean.
Your skirting boards
When was the last time you thought about your skirting boards? Skirting boards can really give a room a stylish finish – check out skirtingsrus.co.uk for the latest in skirting board styles – however, they're something we often neglect to clean! Skirting boards collect dust and grime just like a shelf or any other surface in your home.
So, they must be included in your regular cleaning routine. If it’s been a while since they were cleaned, then give them a quick wipe down with a damp cloth. And from then on, give them a quick dust every week to keep the grime at bay.
Handles and light switches
Door handles, cupboard handles, drawer knobs and of course light switches. These things are touched frequently in your home and as a result, they can quickly become a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. Make sure you’re wiping them down with an antibacterial solution each week.
Frames of every kind
Much like your skirting boards, there are other areas that collect dirt and grime. Door frames, the tops of cabinets, mirrors and picture frames are often neglected, and it shows. During your spring clean, make sure you give everything a good dust. You’ll notice the difference immediately and wish you’d done it sooner!
The kids' toys
If you have little ones at home, then you’ll know that their toys can be breeding grounds for germs and bacteria, especially ones that cause flu and cold symptoms. Check the care instructions on soft toys and give them a clean, wipe down plastic and wooden toys as best you can with an antibacterial solution to keep your little ones safe and healthy.
Your cleaning tools
We need them to clean with, but if they’re not looked after properly then you could just be pushing dirt and bacteria around. Ensure your mop buckets and mop heads and cleaned after each use with bleach and hot water, make sure your vacuum cleaner and all its accessories are also dust and dirt free. This vacuum and mop in one is a perfect cleaning combo.
If you’re using cleaning cloths or sponges, consider throwing them away and purchasing machine washable cleaning equipment instead. That way you can keep your cleaning tools clean, but you’re not spending a fortune!
