What Are the Most Idyllic Destinations in the Caribbean?

Sharing is caring!

The Caribbean has over 7,000 islands full of lush rainforests and sun-drenched beaches. It's 13 islands, 12 dependencies, and seven overseas territories have long been favourites among holidaymakers thanks to their warm weather and beautiful scenery.

Whether celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or simply indulging in a well-earned escape, here are four must-visit islands to add to your travel wish list.

St. Lucia: A Lover's Paradise

St. Lucia is perhaps best known for its iconic twin peaks, the Pitons. The two mountainous volcanic plugs, a World Heritage Site, are over 700 m high each, and the larger of the two is especially popular with hikers looking for a challenge.

For a more relaxed time, you can soak in the sun on the long stretch of golden sand on Reduit Beach before dipping in its turquoise waters. Anse Mamin Beach is a more secluded alternative for those seeking privacy. If you're interested in experiencing the local culture and nightlife of the nation, visit the Gros Islet Street Party on Friday night. There you'll find full-moon beach parties and bustling restaurant strips to explore.

Dominica: Nature's Hidden Gem

This underrated mountainous Caribbean island is home to unspoiled natural habitats. Nature enthusiasts can spend a day hiking through the Morne Trois Pitons National Park's rainforest and mountain to the geothermal Valley of Desolation, where they'll discover the perpetually boiling lake

To the west of the park is Roseau, the capital. When walking through its colourful timber houses, be sure to visit the botanical gardens. Established in 1899, it boasts exotic trees and flowering shrubs alongside ponds and a small pavilion. Climb Jack's Walk to the top of Morne Bruce for terrific views of the capital and a fantastic picture spot.

Turks and Caicos: Pristine Beaches and Luxury

With over 200 miles of white sands and barrier reefs, the Turks and Caicos are the ultimate beach destination. On the islands of Providenciales, you and your partner will be spoilt for choice when dining. Feast on seafood at Da Conch Shack while admiring the seafront views and sip on its rum selection.

The islands are known for their scuba-diving sites, with a 14-mile barrier reef on Provo's north shore. If you're wondering where to stay on your holiday, Como Parrot Cay is a resort that offers a more authentic feel of the island. Nature reserves surround Amanyara's luxury private villas and bungalows.

Dominican Republic: Affordable Romance

Dominican Republic holidays offer a romantic escape without breaking the bank. Punta Cana is covered in all-inclusive resorts, lowering prices while encouraging competition by providing new amenities and luxury services.
Take a day trip to Sonao Island to spot thriving local wildlife in the Cotubanamá National Park. In Santo Domingo, the Americas' oldest European settlement, you can enjoy sanchocho stew from street vendors and spot avant-garde outdoor murals next to historical sites. An eco-tour to Rio Chavon will see you explore the jungle by boat for unparalleled access to the natural world.
