In September when our family visited Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for our annual beach vacation, we decided one night to visit Matt's Homemade Ice Cream.
Matt's is right on the main strip as you get into Gulf Shores. You can't miss it.
The bright neon green and pink sign makes it easy to see. We also loved the outside seating as we came up. Let me just tell you too that Matt's was hopping!
When we went inside, there was standing room only. Thankfully, they had the lines moving pretty fast so we didn't have to wait long at all.
The cool thing about Matt's is that their ice cream is the ONLY homemade ice cream in town! Sure, there are plenty of other ice cream shops, but none with the vintage feel of “way back when” and that creamy taste of homemade goodness.
Matt's offers classic flavors, but if you are up for a little taste of heaven, get one of his creations. Seriously — there is nothing like it in the world.
At Matt's, you can count on at least 40 flavors to choose from, ranging from the basic to the creative. Don't worry, though, there is no such thing as a wrong choice!
We all wound up getting something different. For me, I HAD to have cotton candy ice cream. The daughter got her Salted Caramel. My son settled for a homemade chocolate milk shake. My mother-in-law got some sugar free butter pecan (which is perfect for the diabetic), and hubby got the brownie delight.
Every single bite was delicious.
If you visit Matt's Homemade Ice Cream, you will love the look and feel of the inside. The walls are decorated with ice cream art from the local middle schools.
And the counters are covered in old fashioned sodas and candies that are for sell.
Between cones and cups, floats, splits, and shakes, and not to mention, Old Fashioned Sodas, Matt's has something for everyone.
I already know that my family and I will be visiting here again when we return next fall for our annual beach vacation. If you are looking for some good old fashioned ice cream, Matt's is where its at!

This sounds like a perfect place to get ice cream. Home-made is always Best. We lived in David, Panama for 11 months. We frequented an ice cream shop downtown where only home-made was served. Guava ice cream was very interesting and so was papaya, all local there naturally.
