  Yum

Asheville, North Carolina is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the U.S., and after experiencing it myself, I can honestly say the reputation is well deserved. Here are some pet-friendly places in Asheville just in case you visit with your sweet fur baby.

This isn’t one of those polished “perfect itinerary” travel guides. I just want to share my real experience traveling with my dog: the route we took, the genuine pros and cons of the places we visited, and one essential item that absolutely saved me at the worst possible moment.

Pet-Friendly Places in Asheville, North Carolina

Stay: Aloft Asheville Downtown — Honestly a Great Choice

One of the most stressful parts of traveling with a dog is booking a hotel that claims to be “pet-friendly” but ends up having endless restrictions and hidden rules.

The Aloft Asheville Downtown is one of the best pet-friendly places in Asheville and the only hotel I will stay it when visiting the area.

What I Actually Loved

  • The staff love your pets as much as you do and have homemade dog biscuits on hand to share with them.
  • The room comes set up with a dog bed and water bowl before your arrival.

One Small Downside

Parking downtown is definitely pricey, but the location makes up for it. There are multiple dog-friendly cafés and walking spots within a few minutes of the hotel, which made early morning and evening walks incredibly convenient.

Craggy Pinnacle Trail: one of the most beautiful pet-friendly places in Asheville but Not Perfect

Craggy Pinnacle Trail is one of the most popular dog-friendly hiking trails on social media right now.

What I Loved

Easy Hike With a Huge Payoff

The trail is only about 1.4 miles round trip with a relatively gentle incline. This is good for both people and pets. It’s one of those rare hikes that gives you incredible scenery without requiring extreme effort.

Plenty of Shade

A large portion of the trail winds through dense tree cover and rhododendron tunnels. Even though the sun may be out, the trail itself will stay cool and comfortable.

Incredible Mountain Views

The overlook at the summit offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Downsides Nobody Talks About

The Trail Gets Crowded

Some sections are extremely narrow, especially the stone stair areas where only one person and one dog can comfortably pass at a time. On busy weekends, it can be stressful if your dog isn’t comfortable around unfamiliar dogs.

Parking Is a Nightmare

The parking lot is surprisingly tiny for such a popular trail.

The Trail Can Get Muddy

Because the trail is dirt, when it rains it can get pretty muddy. There are no wash stations along the way so pack plenty of ViliPets Portable Travel Size Dog Wipes in your hiking backpack before leaving.

Out there in the middle of nowhere — with no sink, no hose, and not even a public restroom nearby — these are unbelievably useful.

The wipes themselves are thick and durable enough to handle sticky clay without tearing apart immediately.

Food & Drinks: Wicked Weed Brewing Was the Perfect Ending

After hitting the trail, head to Wicked Weed Brewing, one of Asheville’s most famous craft breweries. Their outdoor patio feels like a giant social club for dogs.

The server immediately will bring a huge bowl of ice water, for your poochy while you look over the menu and order lots of delicious food for yourself.

This relaxed, easygoing atmosphere is perfect for both you and your dog.

Final Thoughts

Traveling with a dog definitely requires more patience and preparation, but having small, practical essentials — especially something compact that can solve a huge problem in seconds — makes a massive difference.

No trail is perfect. There will always be mud, chaos, unexpected situations, and moments where you question your decisions.

But those little imperfect moments are also part of what makes traveling with your dog so memorable. If you’re planning to take your furry companion on a road trip, make sure to prepare ahead, stay flexible, and prioritize their health and safety.
