One of the most stressful parts of traveling with a dog is booking a hotel that claims to be “pet-friendly” but ends up having endless restrictions and hidden rules.
The Aloft Asheville Downtown is one of the best pet-friendly places in Asheville and the only hotel I will stay it when visiting the area.
What I Actually Loved
- The staff love your pets as much as you do and have homemade dog biscuits on hand to share with them.
- The room comes set up with a dog bed and water bowl before your arrival.
One Small Downside
Parking downtown is definitely pricey, but the location makes up for it. There are multiple dog-friendly cafés and walking spots within a few minutes of the hotel, which made early morning and evening walks incredibly convenient.

A large portion of the trail winds through dense tree cover and rhododendron tunnels. Even though the sun may be out, the trail itself will stay cool and comfortable.

The overlook at the summit offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Downsides Nobody Talks About
The Trail Gets Crowded
Some sections are extremely narrow, especially the stone stair areas where only one person and one dog can comfortably pass at a time. On busy weekends, it can be stressful if your dog isn’t comfortable around unfamiliar dogs.

The parking lot is surprisingly tiny for such a popular trail.

This relaxed, easygoing atmosphere is perfect for both you and your dog.
