Easy Pork Burrito Bowl

Sharing is caring!

Y'all know how much I love Mexican food, so anytime I can create a new recipe like my delicious Pork Burrito Bowl I am all about it.

This recipe features one of my new favorite cuts of meat — pork — the other white meat. I am trying to lay low on the red meat right now, so re-inventing my all-time favorite recipes using pork is my new go-to.

The reason that I am SO in love with using pork these days is that I found out that a 3 ounce serving of pork such as tenderloin, for example, is an “excellent” source of protein, thiamin, vitamin B6, phosphorus and niacin, and a “good” source of potassium, riboflavin, and zinc, yet contributes only 6% of calories to a 2,000 calorie diet. Fresh pork is naturally low in sodium.

Being that I am working hard at cleaning up my diet, I knew that pork would be a better choice for me than ground beef in this recipe.

The funny thing is that when my husband tasted this recipe, he said he could not tell the difference thanks to the spices I used.

September is National Rice and National Whole Grains Month. The fourth week of September is National Wild Rice Week. Whole grains are nutritious and are great to make delicious food right from appetizers, salads, breads, and main courses to desserts.

In our #FestiveFoodies, we are celebrating the grains this month by sharing our favorite recipes showcasing any grains and Radha of Magical Ingredients  is hosting this event. We are sharing 30 different recipes using whole grains and join us in the celebration.

How to Make a Pork Burrito Bowl

To start, you need to brown 1 pound of ground fresh pork.

Fresh ground pork is more budget-friendly than ground beef, and it takes better to spices as well. For instance, in this recipe, I used cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. That's it. And this pork has such an amazing flavor. You would not even believe it was pork if you took a bite.

Once you get your pork done, the rest is super easy! I served mine with cooked rice, but if you want to go low carb, you can leave out the rice, or add quinoa, brown rice, or over a bed of tortilla chips. It is totally up to you!

This is the easiest recipe you will ever make. Less than 15 minutes and you can have dinner on the table. And the best part, you can double or triple this recipe.

Then keep it in the freezer for that super quick meal you need. Rice freezes well too, so put together a Frozen Mexican Meal all in a disposable pan and pull it out when you need to make dinner on the fly.

The Ohio Pork Council and the Ohio Hog Farmers are doing their best to educate readers on the beauty that is pork. Believe me when I say that if pork is cooked right, you will fall in love with the taste.

And I love that the Ohio hog farmers really take care of their pigs. They are treated humanely and do not give their animals added hormones. To learn more about the cuts of pork available and what each label means, you can visit here.
