What Is a Dirty Soda?
If you've never had a dirty soda before, you're in for a treat!
A dirty soda is a fun twist on regular soda that combines your favorite carbonated drink with cream, flavored syrups, or other sweet additions.

The cream gives the soda a smooth, rich flavor, almost like a melted ice cream float, while the carbonation keeps it light and bubbly.
For our Halloween version, we took things a step further by decorating the cups to look like pumpkins, monsters, and ghosts.
Not only do they taste delicious, but they're also adorable sitting on a Halloween party table!
Why You'll Love These Halloween Dirty Sodas

- Budget-friendly: You only need a handful of inexpensive ingredients.
- Easy to customize: Change the soda flavors and decorations to create different Halloween characters.
- No special equipment: All you need are clear plastic cups, a permanent marker, and your favorite soda.
- Perfect for parties: Set up a Halloween dirty soda bar and let everyone create their own spooky drink.
- Ready in minutes: Once your cups are decorated, the drinks come together in about five minutes.
Ingredients for Halloween Dirty Sodas

You don't need much to make these fun Halloween drinks. Most of the ingredients can be found at your local grocery store.
For the Pumpkin and Monster Dirty Sodas
- Orange soda (such as Fanta or Sunkist)
- Mountain Dew
- Heavy whipping cream
- Whipped topping or whipped cream
- Halloween-themed sprinkles
- Ice cubes
For the Ghost Dirty Soda
- Clear or light-colored soda, such as Sprite or lemon-lime soda
- Marshmallow fluff
- Heavy whipping cream
- Whipped topping
- Halloween sprinkles, optional
- Ice cubes
Supplies Needed
- Clear plastic cups
- Black permanent marker (Sharpie)
- Spoon or small spatula
- Straws
Helpful tip: Make sure your cups are completely dry before drawing on them. This helps prevent the marker from smearing. Keep all marker decorations on the outside of the cups.
How to Make Halloween Dirty Sodas

These drinks are incredibly simple to put together, and decorating the cups is half the fun!
Step 1: Decorate Your Halloween Cups
Start with clear plastic cups and a black Sharpie.
For the pumpkin cups, draw a classic jack-o'-lantern face with triangle eyes, a triangle nose, and a big toothy grin.
For the monster cups, get creative! Draw silly eyes, crooked smiles, sharp teeth, or even a Frankenstein-inspired face.

For the ghost cups, draw two black oval eyes and a small mouth on the outside of the cup.
You can make each face different so everyone has their own unique Halloween character.
If you're making these with younger children, let them help come up with the facial expressions while an adult handles the permanent marker.
Step 2: Add the Ice
Once your cups are decorated, fill each one about halfway with ice.
You don't want to overfill them because you'll need room for the soda, heavy cream, and whipped topping.
Step 3: Pour in the Soda
Now it's time to bring your Halloween characters to life!
For the Pumpkin Dirty Soda: Pour orange soda over the ice. The bright orange color makes your jack-o'-lantern face really stand out.
For the Monster Dirty Soda: Use Mountain Dew for a fun green monster drink. The green soda makes the silly monster faces look even more festive.
Leave a little space at the top of each cup for the creamy additions.
Step 4: Add the Heavy Cream

Slowly pour about 1–2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream into each drink.
Watch as the cream swirls through the soda, creating a fun, cloudy effect!
You can leave the cream swirled throughout the drink for a cool Halloween look or give it a gentle stir to combine everything.
The heavy cream adds a rich, smooth flavor that balances out the sweetness of the soda.
Step 5: Add Whipped Topping and Sprinkles
Finish each dirty soda with a generous swirl or dollop of whipped topping.
Then add your favorite Halloween sprinkles!
We love using a mixture of orange, black, purple, and green sprinkles to make the drinks extra festive.
Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy!
How to Make the Marshmallow Fluff Ghost Dirty Soda

This might be my favorite of all three Halloween dirty sodas!
Instead of relying only on the color of the soda, we used marshmallow fluff to create little white ghosts on the inside of our clear plastic cups.
The result is such a cute Halloween drink!
Step 1: Draw Your Ghost Face
Using a black Sharpie, draw two eyes and a small ghost mouth on the outside of a clear plastic cup.
You can make your ghost look happy, surprised, or spooky!
Step 2: Add the Marshmallow Fluff
Using a small spoon or spatula, spread little dollops of marshmallow fluff along the inside walls of the cup, positioning the fluff behind the ghost faces.
The white marshmallow fluff creates the ghost's body while the black marker gives it a face.
Try to keep the fluff in small patches so you can still see the ghost shapes through the cup.
For easier decorating, you can also put the marshmallow fluff into a piping bag and pipe it onto the inside walls of the cup.
Step 3: Add Ice and Soda

Carefully add ice to the center of the cup, trying not to disturb the marshmallow fluff ghosts.
Slowly pour in your clear soda.
A lemon-lime soda works especially well because it allows the white ghosts to remain visible.
Step 4: Make It a Dirty Soda
Add 1–2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and finish with a swirl of whipped topping.
You can add Halloween sprinkles if you want, but the little marshmallow ghosts are adorable all on their own!
Serve immediately.
Tips for Making the Best Halloween Dirty Sodas
These fun Halloween drinks are pretty foolproof, but a few simple tips will help them turn out perfectly.
Decorate the cups ahead of time. If you're making these for a party, draw all the Halloween faces on the cups the night before. This saves time when you're ready to serve the drinks.

Use cold soda. Chilled soda helps keep your drinks cold and refreshing without needing too much ice.
Pour slowly. Adding heavy cream to carbonated soda can cause extra fizzing, so pour the cream slowly to prevent overflowing.
Don't overfill the cups. Leave plenty of room for the whipped topping and sprinkles.
Serve immediately. Dirty sodas taste best right after they're made, while the soda is still bubbly and the whipped topping is fluffy.
Use a piping bag for the ghosts. Marshmallow fluff can be sticky, so a piping bag makes it easier to position the ghost shapes inside the cups.
Can You Make Halloween Dirty Sodas Ahead of Time?
While you can prepare some of the ingredients in advance, I recommend waiting until you're ready to serve before mixing the drinks.

The soda will lose its carbonation over time, and the whipped topping will eventually melt into the drink.
However, you can absolutely prepare the cups ahead of time!
Draw the pumpkin, monster, and ghost faces a day or two before your party. Keep them clean and dry until you're ready to use them.
You can also portion out the sprinkles and have your soda and cream chilled in the refrigerator.
For the marshmallow fluff ghosts, I recommend adding the fluff shortly before serving so the ghost shapes stay in place.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use half-and-half instead of heavy cream?
Yes! Half-and-half works well if you want a lighter dirty soda. The drink won't be quite as rich and creamy, but it will still taste delicious.
Can I use different kinds of soda?

Absolutely! That's one of the best things about dirty sodas. You can use orange soda, Mountain Dew, Sprite, grape soda, root beer, or any other soda you enjoy.
Can I make these without dairy?
Yes. You can substitute a dairy-free creamer or coconut cream for the heavy whipping cream and use a dairy-free whipped topping. Just keep in mind that the flavor and texture may change slightly.
Will the marshmallow fluff dissolve in the soda?
Marshmallow fluff will gradually soften and begin mixing into the soda, which is why it's best to make the ghost drinks right before serving.
Are these Halloween dirty sodas good for toddlers?

These are sweet, occasional treats. For younger children, serve a smaller portion, consider using caffeine-free soda, and skip any hard candy decorations that could be choking hazards. Mountain Dew contains caffeine, so a caffeine-free green soda is a better option for little ones.
Final Thoughts
Making these fun Halloween dirty sodas was such an easy way to add a little extra excitement to the spooky season!
I love how something as simple as a clear plastic cup and a black Sharpie can transform an ordinary soda into an adorable Halloween character.
The orange soda pumpkins, green Mountain Dew monsters, and marshmallow fluff ghosts are all so fun to make, and the heavy cream gives each drink that classic dirty soda flavor.

Whether you're making these for a Halloween party, a family movie night, or just a fun afternoon with the kids, they're sure to bring plenty of smiles.
So grab your favorite sodas, some clear plastic cups, and a Sharpie, and get ready to make the cutest Halloween dirty sodas!
