Hey y'all! A game day snack board at my house means one thing: I am not cooking a big meal while also trying to watch the game and referee whatever the kids are doing in the other room.

Snack boards are pretty much my whole strategy at this point. I've messed up enough of them over the years to have a few tricks that actually work now.

Here's what actually matters when you're putting one together.

1. Pick one really solid dip to anchor the whole board

You do not need four different dips and four different bowls to wash. One good dip that works with both crackers and veggies does double duty and cuts your dish pile way down.

If you're looking for something new to try, Bitchin' Sauce is worth grabbing next time you're at the store. It's almond based, no preservatives or stabilizers in it, and there are enough flavors that you'll find one your crowd actually likes.

2. Group things by texture, not just by type

Instead of just tossing crackers here and veggies there, I try to spread out textures. Crunchy stuff on one side, something soft somewhere else, and a fresh thing tucked in between so nobody just parks in one corner of the board the whole game.

3. Do not skip the sweet corner

A little sweetness balances out all that salt. Grapes work. So does dried fruit. Honestly a small bowl of chocolate covered pretzels tossed in one corner gets people circling back to the board late in the game too.

4. Prep containers, not just food

Half the battle with a good snack board is not running out of clean bowls halfway through assembling it. I keep a set of small containers just for boards, so I am not scrambling through my cabinets while people are already arriving.

5. Build it an hour ahead, then walk away

The whole point of a snack board is that you build it once and then you get to actually watch the game. Put it together an hour before kickoff, cover it, and leave it alone. Nobody needs you fussing with a cheese arrangement during the third quarter.

My go to game day snack board lineup

Here is roughly what ends up on my board most Sundays: a couple of cheeses, good crackers, baby carrots and cucumber, grapes, and one dip that can carry the whole thing. Swap in whatever your family actually eats, that is really the only rule that matters here.

Let me know what makes it onto your game day snack board this season, and if you try Bitchin' Sauce on yours, I would love to hear how it goes over with your crew!
