Here's how to throw one together! This dish will be the best part of your patriotic celebration!!
How to Make a Festive Fourth of July Charcuterie Board
For this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
- 4 pints of Fresh Strawberries for the red stripes
- 18 Ounces Fresh Blueberries
- 2 8-Ounce Bars of White Cheeses of your choice for the white stripes
Items Needed:
The first step is to wash your fruit thoroughly and give it time to dry. The grocery store does not do a good job of cleaning the fruit so make sure to clean it good before serving it to your guests. Then pull or slice the stems off your strawberries.
Place your blueberries in a small white bowl and place it in the corner as a placeholder for the square section.
Line the strawberries up in a double line, at the top of the platter, skip an equal amount of space and place another double line of strawberries. Skip another equal amount of space and at the very bottom of the platter place one final line of strawberries.
Be sure to keep your lines straight and be sure to line up the starting points of the first two double strawberry lines so the blueberry portion is even.
Slice your cheese blocks on a cutting board into about ¼-inch slices. Line two slices up side by side in the two open lines. Add another stack on top of each cheese line.
You can either leave your blueberries in small bowls or pour them into the remaining, open space. This board has the perfect patriotic colors! Enjoy!
Tips:
I ended up using about 4 containers of strawberries because there are always bad ones in the container no matter how hard I try to pick good ones. I know this happens to everyone, so it’s nice to have extra for when this happens, or for refilling the platter, if need be.
You can slice the ends off your strawberries, if you like. However, I noticed they stay fresher, longer when you just remove the stem instead of slicing. It also allows for easier grab and go without a mess since sliced strawberries tend to be juicy and stain hands. Leaving the strawberries unsliced will also alleviate the issue of the cheese getting gooey.
You can use other white foods in place of the cheese, if you prefer. White chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, white chocolate covered almonds, etc. would all make great choices.
Variations
If you want to incorporate a little more food into your platter, you can add things like a blue m&m or other blue candies for the blueberries, or even cut the white cheese into a star shape using a star cookie cutter. You can use different sizes to make little stars and bigger stars. Making these changes is a fun way to change up the tray a little bit.
You could even use a wood charcuterie board and throw all of the foods on the board with no pattern in mind. Mix and match the colors to create a colorful board for patriotic holidays.
You could also create a complete blue charcuterie board with any blue ingredients like candies, fruit, dyed food or drink and more. Make a complete red fruit tray using red ingredients and fresh berries. Make a complete white cheese plate or cheese board. Spread them out across the table for a fun and festive option.
If white cheese is not a favorite among your party guests, then you can use a variety of cheese for the platter.
How to Store Leftovers
Store the leftovers for this patriotic charcuterie board in airtight containers in the fridge. You could also just cover the trays with plastic wrap. I eat on leftover cheese trays for days. It's a great option for lunch or snack.
