If you're looking for something beyond the beach during your Alabama Gulf Coast vacation, the Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach is one of the most unique attractions in the area.
Nestled along the scenic shores of Wolf Bay, this waterfront arts destination combines stunning galleries, hands-on experiences, and local creativity all in one beautiful location.
Whether you're an art lover, a family traveling with kids, or simply looking for a relaxing afternoon activity, the Coastal Arts Center offers an experience you won't find anywhere else on the Gulf Coast.

After our romantic dinner at the Villaggio Grille the night before, we headed back to our beach side condo to relax and rest and get some sleep.
The next day was a day full of fun that we had planned. We started out the day with a pottery class we were taking at the Coastal Arts Center in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama. If you want a really awesome day of fun that is completely different than anything you have experienced, you will want to do something like this!

When my husband and I first saw our itinerary for Gulf Shores, we both laughed out loud when we saw we were taking a pottery class together. Neither of us had ever done anything like this before, so we were both pretty nervous.
Experience The Hot Shop at The Coastal Arts Center

Perhaps the most famous attraction at the Coastal Arts Center is The Hot Shop, Alabama's premier hot glass-blowing studio.
Visitors can watch professional artists transform molten glass into stunning works of art right before their eyes. The demonstrations are fascinating and completely free to watch during operating hours.
For an even more memorable experience, you can reserve a “Make Your Own Glass” class and create your own glass piece under the guidance of experienced artists. It's a one-of-a-kind souvenir that you'll treasure long after your beach vacation ends.
Get Creative in The Clay Studio

If pottery is more your style, head over to The Clay Studio. Here, guests can participate in pottery classes, hand-building workshops, and wheel-throwing experiences.
The studio offers a welcoming environment for beginners while still providing enough challenge for those with previous experience. Families especially enjoy the hands-on nature of these classes, making it a fun activity for all ages.
Shop Local Artwork
The Coastal Arts Center also features a gift shop filled with handcrafted items created by Gulf Coast artists. You'll find unique home décor, jewelry, pottery, glass creations, paintings, and other one-of-a-kind treasures that make perfect souvenirs or gifts.

Shopping here is a great way to support local artists while bringing home something truly special from your trip.
Enjoy the Waterfront Setting
One of my favorite things about the Coastal Arts Center is its location. The campus overlooks beautiful Wolf Bay, creating a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busy beach crowds.
Take a stroll around the grounds, enjoy the waterfront views, and soak in the laid-back coastal charm that makes this area so special. It's the perfect place to slow down and spend a relaxing afternoon.
Tips for Visiting
- Admission to the gallery is free.
- Glass blowing and pottery classes require advance reservations.
- Wear comfortable clothing if participating in a class.
- Bring your camera because the bay views are beautiful.
- Allow at least 1–2 hours to fully explore the campus.
- Visit during the weekday if you'd like to watch artists actively working in The Hot Shop.

Final Thoughts
The Coastal Arts Center offers a refreshing change of pace from a typical beach day. Between the stunning artwork, hands-on classes, waterfront setting, and opportunities to meet local artists, it's easy to see why this attraction has become one of Orange Beach's cultural highlights.
Whether you're visiting Gulf Shores for a weekend getaway or an extended beach vacation, make time to explore the Coastal Arts Center. You may leave with a beautiful piece of art, a handmade souvenir, and a whole new appreciation for Alabama's thriving coastal arts scene.
