This salad is perfect and complete because of the delicious homemade ranch dressing on top! Read below to get the recipe and learn how simple and easy it is to make your own.
For the last few years, I have been making my own homemade dressings and spice mixes. Since I discovered how easy it is, and it tastes so much better, I haven't even considered store-bought.

One of the most popular dressing recipes on my site is my Copycat Olive Garden dressing.
I recently played around with some of my favorite spices to create the best homemade ranch dressing you will ever put on your salad.
This dressing uses simple store-bought ingredients -- mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk. Then, using everyday spices, you will create the yummiest dressing ever!
How to Make Homemade Ranch Dressing

It's as simple as mixing it all and pouring it over your favorite salad. I usually like to make a steakhouse salad. When my husband makes steaks for dinner, I can take my steak and turn it into two meals -- ribeye steak one night, and steakhouse salad the next day for lunch.
So -- what goes on a steakhouse salad?

I like to load mine up with all the good things -- fresh heirloom baby tomatoes, fresh sliced avocado, homemade croutons, feta cheese, sliced green onions, and a big piece of red meat -- preferably filet mignon or a ribeye steak.
Then, I top it with this amazing homemade ranch dressing, and all is right with the world. As I said, this is the best ranch dressing you will ever taste, and the longer it sits in the refrigerator, the better it gets.

You can also use this as a ranch dip. Simply add less liquid, and it becomes a yummy dip for your favorite vegetables.
How Long Does Homemade Ranch Dressing Last?
Homemade dressing does not last as long as the stuff at the grocery store. That stuff is full of preservatives, and homemade is not. You can expect your dressing to last up to 3-4 weeks if kept tightly covered in the refrigerator. I just usually store mine in a Ball Mason jar.
What if I Don't Have Buttermilk on Hand?

If you do not have buttermilk on hand, simply take your regular milk and add white distilled vinegar or lemon juice to it and stir. It will turn into buttermilk all on its own!
Store your dressing in these fun little bottles I found on Amazon.
