These fun and spooky Graveyard Brownies are the perfect Halloween dessert! Made with a rich, fudgy homemade brownie base and decorated with Milano cookie tombstones, candy pumpkins, gummy worms, and candy eyeballs, these Halloween brownies are almost too cute to eat.

Whether you're planning a Halloween party, making treats for the kids, or just looking for a fun dessert to celebrate spooky season, these homemade graveyard brownies are sure to be a hit!
The best part? You don't need any fancy decorating skills to make them. Just bake a pan of delicious chocolate brownies, add a few fun Halloween candies, and turn an ordinary dessert into a spooky little graveyard.
The Cutest Halloween Graveyard Brownies

Halloween is one of my favorite times to get creative in the kitchen. There are so many fun ways to turn everyday recipes into something festive, and these Graveyard Brownies are one of the easiest Halloween desserts you can make.
I start with a pan of homemade brownies. I love making them from scratch because they're rich, chocolatey, and have that perfect fudgy texture.
Once the brownies have cooled, the decorating begins!
I take Milano cookies, cut them in half, and use chocolate icing to write "RIP" on each one. These become the cutest little gravestones.

Then I tuck the cookie tombstones into the brownies and scatter candy pumpkins, gummy worms, and candy eyeballs around the top.
The finished brownies look like a miniature Halloween graveyard, complete with spooky tombstones and creepy crawly worms!
These are perfect for a Halloween dessert table, classroom party, or a fun baking afternoon with the grandkids.
Why You'll Love These Graveyard Brownies

- Made from scratch: The homemade brownies are rich, fudgy, and full of chocolate flavor.
- Easy to decorate: No special baking or cake-decorating skills are needed.
- Kid-friendly: Little helpers will love adding the pumpkins, worms, and candy eyeballs.
- Perfect for parties: These brownies make an adorable centerpiece for a Halloween dessert table.
- Customizable: You can add your favorite Halloween candies to create your own spooky graveyard scene.
Ingredients for Graveyard Brownies
This recipe has two parts: the homemade brownie base and the fun Halloween decorations.
For the Homemade Brownies
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
These simple pantry ingredients come together to make a delicious batch of chocolate brownies.
For the Graveyard Decorations

- 6 Milano cookies, cut in half to make 12 tombstones
- 1 small tube of chocolate decorating icing
- 12 candy pumpkins
- 12 gummy worms
- 24 candy eyeballs
You can use more or less candy depending on how decorated you want your graveyard to look.
How to Make Graveyard Brownies
Step 1: Make the Homemade Brownies
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F.
Line an 8-by-8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a little extra hanging over the sides. This makes it easier to lift the brownies out once they've cooled.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar.
Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until everything is smooth and combined.
Next, add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir gently until the dry ingredients are incorporated.
Be careful not to overmix the batter. Overmixing can make your brownies tougher instead of tender and fudgy.
Spread the brownie batter evenly into your prepared pan.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Allow the brownies to cool completely before decorating.

Step 2: Make the Milano Cookie Gravestones
While your brownies are cooling, it's time to make the tombstones.
Take your Milano cookies and carefully cut each one in half. The rounded ends make perfect little gravestones.
Using a tube of chocolate decorating icing, write the letters "RIP" on the front of each cookie.
Set the cookies aside for a few minutes so the icing can firm up.

Helpful tip: If the cookies start to crumble when cutting them, use a sharp serrated knife and a gentle sawing motion.
Step 3: Create Your Brownie Graveyard
Once the brownies are completely cool, it's time to decorate!
Gently press the cut ends of the Milano cookie tombstones into the brownie surface so they stand upright.
If the brownies are too firm to insert the cookies easily, make a small slit with a knife first.
Arrange the tombstones in different spots around the pan to create your graveyard.
Step 4: Add the Halloween Candy

Now comes the fun part!
Place candy pumpkins around the tombstones to give your graveyard a festive Halloween look.
Add gummy worms, letting some curl around the gravestones or hang over the edges of the brownies.
Finally, scatter candy eyeballs around the top for an extra spooky touch.
You can even tuck a few gummy worms partially into the brownies to make them look like they're crawling out of the ground!
Step 5: Slice and Serve

Once your graveyard is decorated, use a sharp knife to cut the brownies into squares.
For the cleanest cuts, wipe your knife between slices. You may find it easier to portion the brownies before inserting the decorations, especially if you want each brownie square to have its own tombstone.
Serve these adorable Halloween brownies at your next spooky celebration!
Tips for Making the Best Halloween Graveyard Brownies
Let the brownies cool completely. Warm brownies can cause the icing to melt and make your cookie gravestones fall over.

Use fudgy brownies. A rich, fudgy brownie base gives the cookies a sturdy place to stand.
Decorate close to serving time. Milano cookies can soften if they're left sitting in moist brownies for too long.
Use a piping bag for the lettering. If you don't have a tube of chocolate decorating icing, put a little chocolate frosting in a small piping bag with a fine tip.
Make the tombstones ahead. You can decorate the Milano cookies a day ahead and keep them in an airtight container until you're ready to assemble the brownies.
Fun Variations for Graveyard Brownies
There are so many creative ways to customize this Halloween dessert.
- Add crushed Oreo dirt. Sprinkle crushed chocolate sandwich cookies around the tombstones to make the brownies look like freshly dug graves.
- Make a haunted graveyard. Add little candy bones or skeleton decorations.
- Use different tombstone cookies. Oval-shaped cookies or rectangular shortbread cookies can work if you don't have Milano cookies.
- Add chocolate frosting. Spread a thin layer of chocolate buttercream over the cooled brownies before decorating to give the candy decorations something to stick to.
- Make individual graveyard brownies. Cut the brownies into squares first and give each one a Milano cookie tombstone, pumpkin, and gummy worm.

Can You Make Graveyard Brownies Ahead of Time?
Absolutely!
You can bake the brownies one or two days before your Halloween party. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature.
I recommend waiting to add the Milano cookie tombstones, gummy worms, and candy decorations until the day you're serving them.
This keeps the cookies crisp and the candy looking its best.
How to Store Leftover Graveyard Brownies
Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
If you've already decorated them, keep them in a single layer so the tombstones don't break.
You can also freeze the undecorated homemade brownies for up to 3 months. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe container.
Thaw at room temperature before adding your Halloween decorations.
