My Old Kentucky Dinner Train Experience
My husband surprised me this year with an anniversary trip to Bardstown, KY. For us, this is about a 3-hour drive from where we live. We have always heard about the Kentucky Dinner Train and wanted to experience it for ourselves.
So what is this dinner experience like?
The Kentucky Dinner train travels 17.5 miles down the R. J. Corman Bardstown Line and stops at Limestone Springs Junction. There, the double engines disconnect from one end and reattach at the other end to pull the train back to Bardstown, where the journey started.
During the train ride, you are served a 3 or 4 course dinner or lunch. You get to enjoy some fine cuisine and take in the scenery of the beautiful Bardstown, KY.

This is a one-of-a-kind experience, but if you are a first-time visitor to this attraction, there are a few things to know and consider before booking your train ride.
Reservations are required
If you plan on riding on this train, you will need to make a reservation. All train rides are paid for in advance, so you will not be able to just show up on the day you want to ride and get on. My husband was able to go online and secure our seating for the event.
Here is a tip for you: If you want a private table, you will have to purchase all 4 seats at your table. There are never empty seats on these excursions, so if you do not purchase your entire table, you may sit with a couple of people you know nothing about. Since this was our anniversary, he decided to purchase the whole table for us.

Pricing Can Fluctuate
Depending on what you decide to eat, your final price can fluctuate. The final price of the ticket includes the meal, all non-alcoholic beverages, the excursion, and tax. Gratuity and cocktails are not included.
My husband knows I like hummus, so he purchased an appetizer for us that was a hummus platter and it was amazing.

The meal that is included in your ticket price is a salad, a drink like tea or water, the entree, and a dessert. If you choose to drink on the excursion, there is an extra charge for those beverages.
The gratuity is not included
Just make a note that the tip is not included in your ticket price. At the end of your train ride, a tip will be expected on top of the price of the food and train ride.
What Food Options are Available?
Since we traveled on the train in November, we had fall-themed food.

We chose a delicious salad as well as the Pot Roast dinner, which was phenomenal, by the way.

Menus change seasonally, and food options are available to view in detail on the menu page of our website. Special menus are available for children ages 5-12. You will be asked to select your menu when making the reservations. Changes can be made up to 7 days before the excursion's departure.
For dessert, I opted for a double chocolate lava cake. It was so good and so full of chocolate flavor.

Stephen chose their signature choo-choo dessert. It is filled with chocolate and white mousse as well as whipped cream and fresh fruit.
There is an $11 upcharge if you want the choo-choo dessert.

This was a great anniversary gift. My husband knows that I love experiences more than material things, so gifting us a ride on the My Old Kentucky Dinner Train was perfect. I would love to go back and ride again during the summer and see what the menu is like then.
