Fall is right around the corner and it's that time of year for pumpkin spice everything! These Air Fryer Pumpkin Hand Pies couldn't be easier to make!
If you hate dealing with oil when making fried hand pies, then this easy recipe is for you. These pies are made in the air fryer with minimal ingredients and taste amazing. You will never make these sweet treats any other way again.
How to Mini Pumpkin Pies
This recipe is easy with simple ingredients. You only need premade pie dough, pumpkin butter made with pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice, and two ingredients for the icing.
I make homemade pumpkin butter and a homemade pie crust, but if you do not want to do that, you can cut the time down and use store-bought. The key here is making it super easy to do.
I bought myself a handy dandy dough press and it has cut down on the time in getting the dough the right size and consistency. But you can use a round cookie cutter if you want.
Roll the Dough
Once you roll the dough out with a rolling pin or dough press, use the dough press to measure the size you need. I just flip it over and trace around it. Cut the circle out, place it in the middle of the dough press, and put the filling in the middle of half of your circles with the pumpkin filling. These turn into the cutest pumpkin pies!
If you don't plan on cooking these right away, place them on a baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap. Store them in the fridge until ready to bake.
Fill the Dough
Use the dough press to seal it closed. Use a pastry cutter to cut off any excess. Then, take a fork and go around the edges to crimp making sure nothing will leak out. Re-roll the dough to cut out the remaining circles.
Fry the Hand Pies
Place a parchment paper sheet in the air fryer basket and lay out the hand pies in a single layer making sure to leave enough room. Spray with nonstick cooking spray and then air fry at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Flip the pies over and bake for another 12 minutes. No need to do an egg wash on these. The cooking spray will do just fine.
You can bake them longer if you want a more golden brown crust.
Remove the hand pies from the air fryer and place them on a baking sheet to cool for 5 minutes. While the pies are cooling, make the glaze.
Glaze the Pies
Mix 3 cups of powdered sugar and 2-4 tablespoons of milk in a small bowl. Start with less and add more as needed. The glaze should be thick but not too thick. It will air dry hard on the top. You can add some extra pumpkin pie spice to add extra pumpkin flavor.
Dip the pies face down and lay on a cooling rack to dry. Serve these pies warm or at room temperature.
If you do not like the glaze, you can use coarse sugar mixed with brown sugar and sprinkle the sugar mixture over the warm hand pies.
Store the leftovers in an airtight container.
From here on out, I will be making air fryer hand pies in a variety of flavors! These little pies are the perfect treat for the fall season.
