Blackberry Iced Tea

Sharing is caring!

Blackberry Iced Tea is refreshing and delicious. Made with fresh blackberries and freshly brewed tea for the perfect drink on hot summer days.

The sweet tea mixed with the tart blackberry flavor has the perfect balance of flavors.

One of my favorite flavors to work with is blackberry. I have used it in bbq sauces, desserts, macarons, coffee, ice cream, and more. The possibilities are endless when it comes to this tart little berry. Now, today, I am going to show you how to turn blackberries into the best sweet tea you have ever drank!

How to Make the Best Blackberry Tea

For this recipe you will need —

  • 8 cups of cold water
  • 5 regular sized black tea bags
  • 1 1/2 cups of fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
  • Extra blackberries and basil for garnish

In a medium saucepan, boil the water and the tea bags together. Remove from the heat and let the tea bags steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags.

While the tea is brewing, add blackberries, sugar, and water to another saucepan over medium heat. Cool until the fruit is softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Use a potato masher or the back of a fork to press the juice out of the blackberries. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove from the heat. For me this is the right amount of sweetness, however if you like it sweeter, feel free to add more sugar.

Use a fine mesh strainer and pour the blackberry syrup into a large pitcher. The fine-mesh sieve will help remove any solid blackberries.

Now, pour the tea over the simple syrup and add the lemon juice. Stir to combine. Refrigerate the tea until it is chilled.

Serve over ice in tall glasses with fresh juicy blackberries and sprigs of fresh basil. If you do not like the herby taste of basil, you can use fresh mint leaves instead. You could even add a slice of lemon to the top.

When I make iced tea, black tea is what I go for. It can hold up to alot of other strong flavors making it the perfect balance.

You can use green tea if you prefer. I like the strong taste of tea and green tea is just not strong enough in my opinion.

Steep the tea bags a little longer for a stronger tea flavor.

How to Store Blackberry Iced Tea Recipe

I like to store my leftover iced tea in a glass jar or glass pitcher in the fridge. Make sure it is an airtight container so that other smells and flavors from your fridge don't get into your tea.
