This Brown Sugar syrup is a simple syrup that is the perfect addition when making specialty coffee drinks, cocktails, and boba or milk tea at home!

It uses just two simple ingredients and made on the stovetop. It's the perfect way to add a sweet, rich flavor to your drinks. If you visit your local coffee shop and ask for a Brown Sugar Shaken Latte, this delicious brown sugar syrup is what they will use.

My daughter is an iced coffee lover, but me? I am a hot coffee kind of girl. Well, if I am honest, I am a coffee girl through and through. I like them all. When I visit my local coffee shop, I get in line with all the other coffee lovers and ask for my favorite drink — Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. It has the best flavor and because it's my favorite, I am teaching myself how to make them at home.

Having simple syrup of any kind on hand is the perfect addition to homemade coffeehouse coffees. My favorite of all the simple syrup recipes I have made is my strawberry syrup. But now, this one is at the top.

A classic simple syrup is made with white sugar and water. Basic simple syrup can be jazzed up with lemon, lime, or any flavor.

But, this brown sugar simple syrup is made with dark brown sugar or light brown sugar and water. For added flavor, throw in a couple of cinnamon sticks while it's steeping!

How to Make Homemade Brown Sugar Syrup

In a small saucepan on the stove, add equal parts brown sugar and water. If you want to make a lot of this recipe, I did two cups of sugar and two cups of water. Let it steep over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. If you want to use maple syrup instead of sugar, you can do that.

Let the mixture cool to room temperature. The flavor will be a deep caramel flavor and it really enhances your coffeehouse coffees.

You can stop here and you will have the best syrup for iced coffees or cold drinks you have ever made. But, you can also add some vanilla to the syrup to enhance the flavor a little more.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to use. I like these bottles I found on Amazon. They are perfect for my homemade syrups. Of course, you can store in a mason jar or any glass jar also. I have done both.

My husband is an iced tea drinker and he likes to add a little bit of this syrup to his tea everyday. It's the perfect liquid sweetener to use in all your favorite drinks.

What Foods Can I Use This Brown Sugar Syrup On?

If you make this brown sugar syrup recipe, store it in the fridge and save it for foods like french toast, ice cream, bubble tea, hot chocolate, or even my favorite way — I drizzle it across my bagels with cream cheese.
