Jack o Lantern Ham and Cheese Hand Pies

Sharing is caring!

These Jack O Lantern Ham and Cheese Hand Pies are the perfect little snack or lunch to send with your kiddo for school. They are also the perfect Halloween party appetizer!

You can always find me making fun and festive savory foods. I mean, I can throw down when it comes to spooky desserts, but to be able to put together some spooky savory foods, that adds a lot of fun to the mix!

I saw someone create something like this on Pinterest, but as a dessert, so I decided to take it up a notch and make a fun hand pie or pocket sandwich. It's the perfect jack-o-lantern treat!

How to Make Fun Halloween Hand Pies

For this recipe you will need just a small amount of ingredients —

  • store-bought pie crusts (or you can make your own)
  • Lunch meat of your choice ( I did ham)
  • Cheese of your choice (I did cheddar cheese but you can use swiss cheese if you like)
  • Egg for an egg wash
  • Condiments for the sandwich — mayo, mustard, or ketchup

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

Remove the pie pastry from the box and use a rolling pin to roll it out flat.

Now, use a pumpkin cookie cutter, or for a more rustic look, free hand a pumpkin from the pie pastry sheets. I cut one and then used it as a stencil to cut the others out. It's ok if it is not perfect.

Now, use a sharp knife to cut the faces on half of the pumpkin circles.

Top the uncut halves with the ham and cheese, Then place the cut-out faces on top of that. Seal the edges with a fork or with your fingers.

Once you have sealed the edges, use a pastry brush and brush on the egg whites. Cook the pastry dough in the oven on 400 degrees for about 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and serve with your favorite condiments! Nothing tastes as good as a cheesy ham sandwich in a pumpkin form! I like to serve these alongside my delicious mummy dogs.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat to serve the next day.
