This is the best pimento cheese recipe and it is our absolute favorite and is so easy to make. Just a few simple ingredients from your fridge to create the perfect spread for sandwiches and more.
I am a lover of pimento cheese. It is a Southern staple for a reason. Some people call it the Caviar of the South. I could eat it on everything under the sun including my popular Blackstone Smashburgers.
I stopped buying pimento cheese from the grocery stores when I realized that I could make homemade pimento cheese — right in the comfort of my kitchen.
Honestly, I don't know why I waited so long to make this from scratch. I used to have a friend that made it all the time and the flavor and taste was so much better than any I had ever had before. The first time I made this I knew there was no going back. Let me show you how to make this easy recipe.
How to Make Easy Pimento Cheese Recipe
Now, if you are Southern, then you know exactly what a homemade pimento cheese sandwich tastes like with a delicious and fresh homegrown tomato on top. YUM!
Start with all your ingredients. Most of these should be pantry staples, except pimentos. For this recipe you will need —
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise or for a sweeter taste use Miracle Whip
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 tsp garlic salt or garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cups shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese (use a box grater and grate a block of cheese. Do not use pre-shredded)
- 1 cup of shredded Processed cheese like Velveeta
- 1/2 cup diced pimento peppers
Once you get all those ingredients gathered, simply dump them into a bowl for mixing. You can also use a food processor for this recipe. Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature. It will mix a lot better this way.
Use a hand mixer or a stand mixer and mix it until all the ingredients are well blended. Place the spread in an airtight container in the fridge. Let it rest for at least two hours. The longer it sets the better it tastes.
Once you let it rest in the refrigerator, now it's time to eat it! Grab your favorite bread and load it up.
I also enjoy eating pimento cheese on crackers too. It makes the most delicious dip. Or — if you want to be inspired, you can make these fun Pimento Cheese Bites made with Ritz Crackers and bacon!
Optional Ingredients
A lot of people like to jazz up their pimento cheese with ingredients like Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, red peppers, cherry peppers, white cheddar, dill pickles, green olives, jalapenos, or even hot sauce. Some even like to throw some onion powder or green onions in theirs. There are so many different ways to jazz it up.
Me, I like mine plain with a slice of tomato and some black pepper on top. Pimento Cheese Sandwiches just hit right in the summertime. You can also use this spread with celery sticks or pretzel chips and treat it like a dip.
Some other options you can do is simply put it on slices of white bread and grill it to have a grilled pimento cheese sandwich or put it on top of a burger as I did.
The possibilities with this delicious homemade pimento cheese recipe are endless!

I love it and even though I have never tried putting it in pieces of celery as a filling I think that would be good. I am going to make some of this and try it in celery sticks.
