I don't know about you but I love my Instant Pot for the quick and convenient meals I can prepare. My Instant Pot Broccoli and Cheese Soup and my 3 Ingredient Instant Pot Yogurt are two of my most popular recipes, making me fall in love with the Instant Pot.

So let me show you how cooking chicken wings in the Instant Pot is a great way to make a delicious meal for your family.

How to Make Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings

Nothing beats the convenience of an Instant Pot® for quick, easy, and healthier chicken wings. Once cooked, a quick trip under the broiler is all you need to get that nice crispy finish.

You can save time by purchasing already-trimmed wings. For me, this is the best way to buy them. However, you can save some money by trimming them yourself. Check out the photo below for the approximate location of where to cut each of the whole wings.

They are a little easier to trim AFTER they’ve been cooked. Immediately freeze the tips to make chicken stock later.

This recipe is written for fresh or thawed wings. If using frozen wings, add 3-4 minutes to the active cooking time.

For this recipe, you will need the following —

  • 4-4½ lbs. chicken wings
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, divided
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup of water
  • Sliced celery, for serving

Instant Pot Buffalo Wings Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Frank’s original hot sauce
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

If you prefer to use store-bought instead of making homemade buffalo sauce, you can. However, it is so easy to make, there is no need to buy any.

Sprinkle the wings with garlic powder and season with salt and black pepper, to taste. Place the metal trivet inside the Instant Pot and pour water into the pot. Arrange the seasoned wings on top of the trivet before securing the cover in place. Switch the vent to “Sealing” and adjust the “Manual” setting to 8 minutes.

While the wings cook, in a saucepan, add Frank’s hot sauce, the stick of butter, and the remaining garlic powder and cook over medium heat until thoroughly combined. Set aside.

When the cook time is done, allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then do a quick release for any remaining steam. Carefully remove the lid and transfer the wings to a large bowl. Set aside until just cool enough to handle. If you want to remove any excess water on them, lay them on a paper towel to drain before putting them in the oven. This will ensure that they get crispy skin on the outside.

Finishing the Wings Off In the Oven

Meanwhile, position the top oven rack in the top position and pre-heat the broiler to high. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire cooling rack on top. Set aside.

Pour 1/3 of the buffalo sauce on top of the wings and toss to coat. Transfer the wings to the wire rack on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer and place under the broiler for 3-4 minutes or until the wings start to get crispy and develop some color. Turn the wings and repeat this process.

Remove the sheet pan from the oven and toss the wings with half of the remaining buffalo sauce. Serve immediately with sliced celery, carrot sticks, ranch dressing, and the remaining sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy!

These juicy hot wings are perfect for your celebration with friends and family while you root your favorite team to victory. Making Instant Pot Wings in any flavor truly cuts down on the cooking time and everyone will love how delicious they taste.

Store the leftover wings in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to crisp them back up. Honestly, leftover wings for a meal are the best part of the day! No need to cook anything else.
