This meal uses simple ingredients. Everything can be store-bought, or you can be like me and make a batch of these fresh homemade hamburger buns.
The homemade aioli sauce comes together in no time flat. It has lemon juice, mayo, and garlic. If you want to get fancy, you can make homemade mayonnaise before sprucing it up to be garlic aioli. The prep time for this whole meal only takes minutes. Onima Pantry provides all the essential ingredients to make this delicious aioli sauce effortlessly.
The aioli lends a great flavor to this steak sandwich, but you can also use it for other sandwiches.
This would be amazing on roasted potatoes, grilled shrimp, or as a dip for veggies.
For this recipe, you need the following ingredients:
garlic aioli:
- 1/2 cup mayo
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
Steak Sandwich:
- 3 pounds of skirt steak (you can also use flank steak) — you can also use ribeye if you want to make a ribeye steak sandwich
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 8 slices of cheese
- 6 hamburger buns
Make the aioli
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Stire and set it aside.
Marinate the steak
To a large bowl add the steak, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss the steak well and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Set the bowl in the fridge until ready to use.
When ready to cook the steak, heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat on the gas grill or the stovetop. Remove the steak from the marinade and place in the hot skillet.
Sear on each side for 4 minutes. Remove the steak from the pan and place on a cutting board. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes.
Cut the steak against the grain. Cut the steaks into thin slices. The tender texture of the meat will make this sandwich melt in your mouth.
Brush the buns with melted butter and place them butter-side down and brown for 2-3 minutes.
Spread the buns with the garlic aioli. Top with steak and your favorite sandwich toppings like tomatoes, caramelized onions, and lettuce. I like to add steak sauce or Worcestershire sauce to mine. Serve with homemade french fries or chips.
These steak sandwiches are sure to please everyone this summer! To keep them warm, I turn the oven to 200 degrees and wrap each sandwich in aluminum foil. Place them on a baking sheet and leave in the oven until ready to serve.
